Hi Everyone.

I'm 22 years old, and trying to figure out just what the hell is

happening to me. In brief:

I got my first yeast infection at 19 which i treated with a 3 day

canestan. I then began the pill Marvelon. THat was an extremely

stressful year emotionally and physically. I would get a yeast

infection about every 4 months.

At the time I wasn't aware of natural treatments for vaginal yeast,

and suspect now, that i was treating myself with over the counter

medicines when they probably weren " t necessary.

The next year I began treating them with acidophillus, or garlic.

Because I would usually get one after condom use, I would usually

just insert two acidophillus pills after intercourse.

Last spring I got very sick, had reoccuring sinus infrections, my

migraines worsened, and by april i had full out pneumonia. I was

put on countless anti-biotics, and steroid inhalers...at this point

nobody had warned me of systemic yeast.

I got better but spent all of last summer dealing with excrutiating

migraines.

In november I began a new relationship. I was experiencing lots of

vaginal dryness which was making sex very painful, and would leave

me irritated for a couple of days. After this persisted for three

weeks i bought a lubricant, which seemed to help, though at times, i

felt a burning at insertion.

I thought i had another yeast infection as that had been my main

symptom in the past.

In january I aslo began taking threelac to try and bring a suspected

yeast inbalance into order. I don't know if this is helping me at

this point.

Towards the end of February, even with the lubricant sex was bcoming

considerably more uncomfortable for me. If i had it, i would be

irritated for like 3 days after.

I stopped taking my birth control after my last cycle in February.

Thinking that if i had a yest imbalance this might help.

Since then I have experienced a heavy vaginal discharge and

constantly irritated vulva. I was origanlly prescribed Diflucan

again, which did nothing. My vuvla began to swell and in march i

was tested for std's. when my period came, my symptoms seemed to

wain, which lead my suspect yeast. The doctor i saw said he say a

minor yeast infection and a lot of exterior inflammation. He gave me

a topical antifungal and a low steroid cream.

neither of these things seemed to help. my period seemed to help,

and for a bout a week afterwards everything seemed okay. I

attempted sex again, but was so nervous about hurting myself i

stopped. I was able to have relatively painfree sex once after

that. I changed lubricants from O'My to Astroglide hoping it would

not be as sticky, but had to stop half way through sex because i had

swollen so much.

It's possible that the parabens in Astroglide irritated the skin

more.

But now the white heavy burning discharge is back. I'm only in

uncomfortable when sex is attempted, and the discharge isn't always

itchy. I home tested my vaginal ph and its about 5.5 which is

condusive to yeast....but I have no idea what to try at this point.

I think the constant yeast fighting approach has lead me to this

state in the first place and am afraid to try anything.

I am not in the same town as my normal GP (i'm a university student)

and can only approach the Gp i'm seeing here for a gyn referral.

Don't know what to ask for at my next appointment...thursday.

they did a culture but never phoned me, so i'm assuming it came up

normal...though this was before the astroglide incident (i know it

has glycerin inside which could cause yeast)

Yeah, if anybody has any suggestions please let me know, this

problem has made me severly depressed...it seems like nobody around

me had ever experienced it, and even though my boyfriend is amazing,

i feel like less of a person because we can't have sex.

There is an easy test for systemic yeast. First thing in the a.m.

before you eat or drink anything spit (yep spit) into a glass of

water. Look at a few minutes later and if it's got a lot of " legs "

hanging down - that would be indicitive of systemic yeast. I wish

it wasn't too late to call my sister - she has this (Candida) and

she uses the " spit " test to see how her diet and remedies are

working. I just can't remember the exact amount of minutes you are

supposed to wait to look for the legs. I'll try to repost with more

details.

You can also " google " candida or spit test and find good info.

hi there--

read message 53382 with subject line " Re: Moral Support Please (long) " . also,

there are

lots of books out there that you can check out to discern if your issues might

be yeast

related. such as:

the complete candida yeast guidebook by jeanne marie martin

the yeast connection handbook by william crook

the yeast syndrome by trowbridge and walker

the body ecology diet

3 out of 4 of these books are written or co-written by MDs.

i have battled yeast-related illness for a few years and have done lots of

research so if you

want to ask me questions or just talk offline, email me.
