Guest guest
The worst symptoms I had didn't happen till I had been undertreated for YEARS. That damage was horrible! I had a blood pressure of 190 over 95, weighed 240 and my legs swelled so badly I had to lift them in & out of the car as they hurt too bad to lift by their own power. I almost wrecked my car many times falling asleep while driving home from work, and actually did fall asleep once with a clipper in my hand while standing up clipping a dog. I lost several jobs as I wasn't fast enough & several as I couldn't wake up to get there. I dieted but couldn't lose anything.. all the while taking more & more Synthroid trying to get some relief from the pain & tired. My doctors, as then I was seeing about 4 different ones, all said different things. I had my blood work done many times, always they said my thyroid was in " normal " ranges. the only thing that showed up once was a low blood sodium level. NEVER were my adrenal levels even checked nor the Free thyroid hormones. In 20 years of doctor care not once have I been tested for antibodies. I was on three blood pressure meds, phentermine for weight loss, low sodium diet (which was killing me) Premarin (early hysterectomy at 27 years old) compression hose for the " varicose veins " that I do not have. I was told ot see a shrink, put on Elavil, then Ambien, then got sick of all of them, moved to a different area where the doc there put me on a 1200 calorie a day diet, I laughed in her face! If I ate that many calories a day I would weigh 400 pounds in a few months! I now self medicate, weigh 190 and still losing, but slowly. blood pressure at 130 over 70 most the time. I have a little trouble sleeping but not much, and am still a little tired, but SO much better than the past 15 or so years. I had to stop reading books (my favorite past time) as I couldn't concentrate enough to understand them. I am back reading again, but it is still hard to concentrate for any length of time. It has been 4 years since I took over my own health care. I am slowly recovering, but the long term damage of low thyroid doesn't go away quickly. Took years to get there & it is slow to come back. I am also heat intolerant and have had muscle spasms in my abdomen that I am sure also were from this. I think that's about it! LOL
Guest guest
Almost forgot! Other symptoms I have had a very low basal temperatures! I was at 95 in the AM on waking when I started doing my own adjustments to my meds. I also have been told for years that I had an " Athlete's Pulse " LOL ya, right real athletic when I am 5'2 " and 240 pounds!

Guest guest
Hi, , I don't blame you for only changing one thing at a time. That's the only way to tell what's going on. Have you read Suzanne Somers' book, " The Sexy Years " ? Very interesting. Progesterone does give our thyroid a boost and can even convert to cortisol if needed, as well as estrogen. in Va. >>Have you considered checking your sex hormones too? I just had my progesterone, estradiol, testosterone, DHEA-S and cortisol checked. And just started bio-identical hormones. Hopefully, you're not taking Premarin any more. Wishing you the very best!<< Thanks ! I haven;t got the money right now for testing the other levels. I am no longer on Premarin. I will be 50 this Fall and figured out abotu 2 years ago that I no longer should need the estrogens like i did when I first had my hysterectomy. I tapered down and started using Progesterone cream instead and now no longer even need that. i have the occasional hot flash, but no more urine leakage, which was my main reason I stayed on Premarin as long as I did. I now just take DHEA and Pregnenolone and feel fine. I still need to tweak my thyroid meds a little more, but I am CLOSE! Closer than I have been in 25 years. I think I will leave the other hormones out of it as long as I feel this good and just tweak the thyroid a little more. I don;t like to do more than 1 change at a time so I know what is working.
