Guest guest
I think sneaking it in foods is difficult, too. We do put it in my son's juice - and that works - but you do lose some of it to the cup. We taught my older son to just swallow the pills when he was 2 - that way you don't taste it. If they hold it in their mouths for a minute, it gets slick. If you weigh the amount of time it takes to force it in her vs the amount of time it would take to teach her to just swallow it...probably about even? Also - don't have her wash it down with a sippy cup - use a regular cup. The sucking motion doesn't help get it down. My son's a pro now and we ask for pills for all his meds vs. liquids. In the long run, best thing we did. I've always been curious why more parents don't go that route. Good luck! Marina PS you could always use reverse psychology - it wouldn't work in my house, but it might in yours. > My 3 year old has suddenly decided she will not take her fish oil. Guest guest
Carolyn-- The first thing I'd check is to see if the fish oil is still good-- meaning it's still before its expiration date on the package. The longer it is exposed to air, the smellier it gets, if I recall. So check that first. Sometimes kids are more accutely aware of that before we are. We just learn to grin and bear it, and it's harder for a littler kid when they know something's not right with it. If you also stick with something that's a higher quality fish oil, like what's in the ProEFA or Coromega, that helps too. Less fishy taste and smell, by far! We use Coromega, and 3-4 drops of borage oil to get similar proportions of the ProEFA. I mix it in orange or orange blend juices, or lemonade or ice tea. He doesn't complain. It also helps that I got a supply of paper cups and plastic lids, and bendy straws, and I put the concoctions in those cups, so he really doesn't see the oils or anything. I'd check the oils first-- it might not be your daughter. And if the oils are okay, see about hiding it in something else, like a drink or something else. If they are not, then switch to one of the products I mentioned. I'm sure there will be other suggestions as well. Hope this helps... le (SAHM to Drew, 2.9 yrs. apraxia, DSI and hypotonia) > My 3 year old has suddenly decided she will not take her fish oil. Guest guest
I hear soda is a good masker of the fish oil. > My 3 year old has suddenly decided she will not take her fish oil. Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, My daughter is three and we give her Coromega.. an orange flavored fish oil. She LOVES it and can't wait to get it every morning. We've seen excellent results with it as well. LouAnne
