How Macmillan Can Support You

Dear support group member

I’d like to update you on some of Macmillan’s current activities and also provide some information and advice that may be useful to you and your support group.

Please pass this email on to your group members, or alternatively you can print off the attached document for your group to read.

Launch of Macmillan’s new free phone service

When you’re affected by cancer, you want to know that there’s always someone around who can answer your questions. Someone who can give accurate, balanced information. And someone who can offer you the emotional support you need, whenever you need it. That’s why we’ve launched an important new service for people affected by cancer. It brings together our CancerLine, benefits helpline, cancer information nurse helpline and YouthLine under one freephone number, 0808 808 00 00 (Mon–Fri, 9am–8pm).

Naturally, we want everyone to know about these services, so, over the next few months, we are promoting them on TV, online and in the press, in our autumn brand campaign. But nothing beats ‘word of mouth’ – so please spread the word amongst your group members. We have put together a fact sheet with frequently asked questions about the service, and a poster that you can put up at your group, or wherever else you might be able to promote it. If you would like copies of these, or if you have any questions, please contact Lara King, on 020 7840 4973 or email lking@....

Learn about the changes to electronic patient records and let the government know your thoughts

Ever wondered how your personal health records are stored and who has access to them? Now is your chance find out. The Who Sees What? public engagement project is based around an innovative discussion toolkit in the form of a card game. It’s designed to help patients learn about the proposed changes and contribute to the national debate about how these systems should work.

The project organisers are inviting support groups to take part, by ordering a free copy of the game, playing it at one of your meetings and sending back the results anytime before February 2010. To find out more, contact Annie Quick at nefguest1@... or visit the project website at http://whoseeswhat.org.uk/

If you would like to discuss any of the issues outlined above or to learn more about how Macmillan can assist your group please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your time.

Kind regards

Kim
