I use Calendua Ointment and it can be soothing, especially when applied at bedtime and not wearing undies through the night. BUT - if you have an estrogen deficiency - nothing is going to take its place and heal the tissue. Thing is you won't really know if it is an estrogen deficiency until you try estrogen for a while. See the thing is you have got to have a plan to try and find the source/reason for your pain . I suggest you make a list of the things you have tried and then make a list, based on what you have read here and YOUR particular symptoms, of what you think may be beneficial to you to be tested for. Things like, STD's thyroid, Celiac, biopsy for Lichens or any other diagnosable systemic disease, hormone levels, pevlic floor issues, allergies etc. Prepare your lists and then begin eliminating each possible cause and then go on to the next. .

The ONLY way to do that is to insist that the doc work with you as you are in pain and you belong to a support group with women in it who have the same disorder and you want to rule out all the possible known contributing factors for this disorder. If you have insurance - which will pay for the testing - or if you volunteer pay cash (hard to do I know - but that's why you need the list in case this takes a while) - your doc has no reason to refuse you. If you read, read read and become knowledgeable about whats happening out there in the world of vulvar disorders, your doc may look at you with new eyes, instead of just turning you away. But the bottom line is if this doc won't work with you to rule out what you can - then find another doc. If you are uncomfortable confronting a doc (and its hard to do they are such authority figures in our society), take something with you who can speak for you or with you to get you what you need. If you want to try the estrogen and want to try it right away, Try calling the doc yourself on the phone - tell her/him that so long as you are provided the patient insert (for info on side effects) you WANT to try the med on your skin. Inform the doc that the typical application for this disorder is a tiny pea size amount, massaged into the sore vulvar/clitoral areas. Some women start out applying in the morning and evening, some women once a day.

Why do you want to use boric acid? Are you diagnosed with an infection of any kind?

I have had the clitoral pain and in my case it was referred pain from nerves misfiring due to spasmed pelvic muscles. I also had stabbing left labial pain. There are women, however, who have other disorders, such as the Lichens (and I dont' know anything about them) who have clitoral pain because the skin begins fusing together there. I'd imagine if the pain continues, you'd have to see a doc to see if you have any fusing going on.

Good luck - hope something in here helps.

Dusty

Daisy,

I've used Estrace cream. Not sure if your dr is talking about

Estrace tablets. As far as I know Estrace only comes in a

cream.

I've used it for my vulvar area b/c of an issue with dryness in

that area thanks to a surgical procedure I had to the vulvar

area almost 10 years ago. I didn't have problems with side

effects.

I've not used Estrace on my vulvar area for some time and I

should get back to it. I will have to ask my dr for some

samples of it when I see her next week.

I've never heard of Calendula Cream.

Kristy :)

Hi Daisy,

I have been using Estrace cream on the vulva for about 6 years now and have

not had any unpleasent side effects at all. Acording to my doctor unless

you use the aplicator and insert the Estrace rather than using it topically

on the vulva, it is not absorbed much and pretty much sticks to the area you

are treating. If your doctor is talking about Estrace Tablets there are

some side effects related to that as well as a higher risk for stoke and

uterine cancer. I guess when treating things you have to decide what is

worse and do the best you can to improve quality of life.

I have not used Calendula on the area, but I know it makes a good Emolliant

for dry and rashy skin (I have used it on my hands before).

Dusty, your article was very interesting here. I'm wondering what

kind of estrogen you are recommending getting--the one you use only

a pea size amount? Is it a natural estrgen or synthetic? I have

premarin from my doctor and am afraid to use it. I only like the

natural forms of anything. Including my diet and supplements. I'm

new here and notice there is another here. I will go by Val.
