and that reminds me...I have a thickened endometrial lining...at the point

where they like to do biopsy...and like everything else they've wanted me to do

over the years, I refused. Does anyone else have this...and can this be

related to the thyroid ( i don't see why it can't..everything else I've ever had

is).

Roxanna,

I just looked it up and yes, it says licorice can produce mild estrogenic

activity. I read too that ginseng can do the same and it's supposed to be good

for the adrenals. We can't win, can we?

in Va.

,

I had used up to 4 bags of licorice tea before with good results for my

adrenals months ago. At that time I had read that any more than that would cause

water retention....probably the cause of the hypertension potential I assume?

Right now I am using HC but not licorice tea. The mechanism of the licorice

tea would be useful to adrenal recovery ( preventing breakdown in the liver of

cortisol allowing recirculation and decreased demand on the adrenals ) but I am

avoiding licorice because I had read that it also promotes the production of

estrogen. I am not ovulating strongly anymore and so probably borderline on my

progesterone. I do have symptoms of estrogen dominance....some easily confused

with hypothyroidism ( just started supplementation ) aside from their cyclicity

with my cycle. ( I do use progesterone cream according to my cycle ) My question

is, do you know just how much influence licorice has on promoting estrogen

levels? My mother, 25 years ago, went through what I now think was related, at

least in part, to severe estrogen dominance, and as a result ended up with

endometrial carcinoma. I am much like her physiologically and so am weary of

promoting any artificial estrogen production....we certainly get enough

pseudo-estrogenic influences from the environment already.

Thanks,

Roxanna

Pffft indeed. Glad you ordered your own meds. That 's what I'm going to do

for a while instead of messing with doctors. The doctors stress me out as bad

as the hypo. I seem to be doing pretty good doctoring myself. When i feel

pretty stable, I'm going to find me a good holistic doctor who knows about

bio-identical hormones and thyroid and adrenals. (wishful thinking?). I may

have

to go to 10 doctors to find one...but I am determined to do it. I live near

Chapel Hill, NC...a neat college community with some alternative type

doctors...so I'm going to try there first.

Cindi, a little over a year ago, after being treated with atd's (too much) and

no reductions in meds, I had this happen. I went from having a period every 17

or 18 days, to not having one, then having one really heavy, maybe every other

month? I went to the gynecologist, and she about flipped when I told her what

Dr O had been doing with me on the atd's. She filled me in on a lot of things

to do with my thyroid, and I told her I'd already changed back to my original

Endo. I did have the day surgery for the biopsy and everything was fine? No

cancer which is what the dr told me because of my age she'd be testing for.

Unfortunately, Dr Lee (Endo) turned out to be strictly a #'s man, so he refused

to give me any thyroid meds when I was starting to have severe hypo symptoms

after I weaned off the atd's (after almost 2 full yrs on them). He told me that

my 'normal ranges' wouldn't allow him to 'justify' his putting me on any type of

thyroid meds.

I was slightly perturbed to say the least, because I'd questioned him quite a

bit at one of my office visits. I'd played devils advocate and asked him what

type of thyroid replacement he'd put me on " if " I'd done RAI? He told me that

he could give me on anything I wanted, Armour, Sinthroid, etc.

My last visit when I was so hypoT I couldn't stay awake during the day at work,

he never mentioned the word Armour again, merely laughed when I asked why not

Armour? I didn't find anything particularly funny about my asking him for

Armour, but apparently he did. I looked him straight in the eyes, and said: so

I can only have sinthroid when I get so sick I can't hold my head up and can

hardly move? He assured me that he'd give me something (notice the word,

something) when the tests #'s showed I 'needed' them. Pffft!!!!

By the way, I just ordered 4 bottles of 1 grain armour for myself and my mom.

Mom is doing excellent on hers, and is only taking 2 grains a day. I however am

starting to get some symptoms back, so I've upped mine to 1 1/2 grains for the

next several weeks, twice a day. So far, so good. :-) But I'm also back to

very heavy periods, so I'm hoping those even out. ughhh!
