Guest guest
I found that with me, the main issue why the thyroid meds weren't able to go up and work was the low ferritin. I flunked every one of those written tests. My acth and cortisol were all low normal. With the ferritin up, they are mid range normal. Low thyroid levels make the adrenals work harder so does having low ferritin make the thyroid meds not be effective so the adrenals work too hard. I liken it to a car has a broken carburator. You can add all kind of additives to make it sound better, but it is still broken and using too much gas, Why not fix the carburator instead of adding other things to make it seem better. The ferritin thing as far as the effect on thyroid med absorbtion and how we feel is pretty new. It worked for me, for Janie, anyone else????? > >Reply-To: NaturalThyroidHormones >To: NaturalThyroidHormones >Subject: Re: JAMY--Correcting the LOW IRON is >crucial to good thyroid care >Date: Tue, 20 Jul 2004 17:58:22 -0000 >
Guest guest
I had shortness of breath and walking 1/2 block I would sweat like I climbed a mountain and my heart would beat like it was having an attack. Guest guest
the ferrous sulfate at 325 mg per pill is the strongest thing out there I have found. The liquids were too weak. Yes, it all upset my stomach so I made the mistake of listening to people instead of my DR who had said do the ferrous sulfate 3x a day. I would try the liquid, the slow-fe, etc, just was queasy but no better. Finally I said ok, I will follow directions. I started taking the ferrous sulfate 325 mg with each meal. I was able to do that for about a week, then I was burney feeling in my stomach and my throat. I would stop for two days then do another week. It took about 1 1/2 months doing this till I evened out and could take it, by the end of 2 months, I went from 20 to 50 and started some days 2x a day some three. The reason we all have issues is absorbtion problems. the 3x a day is quick and what we don't absorb we get the next pill. I heard of people taking a year to feel better. I felt like a new person in 3 months. Then I was an idiot and started not taking them and fell right back into the abyss! I am 2x a day. I am up to 2 grains of Armour and 16.6 mg of t4. A Miracle. > >Reply-To: NaturalThyroidHormones >To: NaturalThyroidHormones >Subject: Re: JAMY--Correcting the LOW IRON is >crucial to good thyroid care >Date: Tue, 20 Jul 2004 20:22:03 -0000 >

Guest guest
Hi, , I've heard of shortness of breath going along with anemia. in Va. Your explanation made a lot of sense, and maybe that's what is going on with me too. I've managed to get the Armour up to 75 mg but I think this is the limit for now. Maybe being low on ferritin would explain why the positive effects of the Armour, hydrocortisone, DHEA, and the B-vitamins only seemed to work for a short while and why I keep going back to feeling so downright miserable. Does that sound plausible? Do you know if there's such a thing as iron shots and if they work for ferritin levels? I TRY to take a liquid iron supplement but it kind of irritates my stomach too (but not as much as the pills). I must make myself try harder in that area. Did you ever experience a burning feeling in your throat/lungs, shortness of breath type thing with low ferritin levels?
Guest guest
Hi, Are you all taking vitamin C or drinking orange juice with your iron pills? Isn't vitamin C supposed to help absorb iron? in Va. the ferrous sulfate at 325 mg per pill is the strongest thing out there I have found. The liquids were too weak. Guest guest
Iron is better absorbed in an acidic environment and orange juice fits that description. Jen -- Re: JAMY--Correcting the LOW IRON is crucial to good thyroid care Yes and yes. > Hi, > Are you all taking vitamin C or drinking orange juice with your iron pills? Guest guest
This is not one to guess on. You need a ferritin test to make sure. Otherwise, it can be very dangerous to supplement with iron, if your ferritin is fine. Guest guest
unless the ferritin level is low, you really should not take iron. 1 out of three of us have high ferritin. I may have the number off , it may be 1 out of 5. Either way, without knowing your levels, do not self medicate. Take the article from www.goodhormonehealth.com on ferritin to your DR if he wants to just test iron, > >Reply-To: NaturalThyroidHormones >To: NaturalThyroidHormones >Subject: Re: JAMY--Correcting the LOW IRON is >crucial to good thyroid care >Date: Fri, 23 Jul 2004 21:28:38 -0000 >
