Even when I was obviously sick and running a fever. They also never seemed to think having a high white cell count was unusual when i was there for something else. Although I would always push antibiotics on me when that showed up. I'm very down on doctors these days. Sorry. Cindi

I figure all total I got about 25 years...with 15 years seriously of damage. I told my husband last night that no matter how hard I tried...my brain was definitely damaged from the lack of thyroid hormone all that time. I have a feeling I will always have bouts of depressive feelings for absoluely no reason. It frustrates me. I can tell that it's my brain doing it...because i have no reasons to ever get down...and I know my brain just has been so totally jumbled up all these years. As for the rest of the body...I shudder to think. My mom...who was undiagnosed Hashimoto's...had a autopsy that showed kidney and liver scarring, enlarged heart, hardening of the arteries, ovarian cysts...and other stuff. There is no doubt the lack of hormone does a lot of damage on the body. But what can we do? I pray about it quite honestly....and ask for restoration of my body and mind. But it's hard folks...and I think we have to realize that we just try to get back normal as best we can...and realize that we are going to have some bad days. That things are not always going to work just right. But we're alive. I have a feeling that alot of women who have had heart attacks and died in their 40s and 50s were just undiagnosed thyroid folks. Sorry...don't mean to sound negative. I'm actually doing pretty good. But it was ME who got me feeling good...i'd be dead if I'd left it to the doctors. I haven't felt like exercising in years and years and years. I'm 48. But just recently felt good enough to actually consider going to Curves. Anyone else have experience with their program? Guest guest
After having the opportunity to experience " that fatigue " from exercise these last few months I am 100% able to empathize with those who have felt exercise to be a torture. I would procrastinate before, clock watch during hoping I could push myself through the last 12 minutes...Lord help me!....and then lay on the floor not caring to move for a half hour after wondering why my body can no longer provide energy for itself. I wonder which drug the Dr would have prescribed for this? LOL Not thyroid. We know that. Roxanna Roxanna V. Knight-Plouff, D.V.M. W Plouff North Star German Shepherd Dog Rescue Inc northstargsdr@... www.northstargsdr.org Re: need to complain a little Roxanna, I don't ever remember feeling better (or energized) with exercise. Maybe that's why I never really cared for it much. I've tried and tried. But currently I've given up on it until I have more energy to do it! The last I tried was weight lifting and I felt burned out. Just could NOT do it any more after 3 weeks of it. I think part of my problem is the " paralysis of will " part of the ADD inattentive type. But also I just don't have the energy for it. My husband exercises all the time and occasionally " preaches " to me. He keeps thinking that exercise will give me energy. I keep telling him it never has! Hopefully, some day it will! in Va. ----- I have more good news to give others hope. I have always been a big exerciser. Always loved it and needed it to feel good. There have probably been only 2 years since my teens where I wasn't regularly doing something several times a week. ( one year with a torn/fractured ankle...from high intensity exercise; another year from prolonged grief ) Exercise these last couple years was PAINFULLY exhausting for me. I just barely got through it! Currently I do Nordic track for aerobic exercise. In fact I also barely would get through my weight lifting sessions. I never seemed to be able to get stronger. ( I had done body building for a few years 14 years ago so I could tell that something had changed in me for the worse ) Anyway, after 10 days on Armour and hc, during my last 2 sessions with weights....I was able to INCREASE the amount of weight! :-) And today when I did the Nordic Track it was like I could go on forever! I almost added another 30 minutes but then thought " better not stress my adrenals " . It was just unbelievable to feel GREAT again when exercising. I thought that feeling was gone for good with the ripe old age of 46! HA! Throw THAT in the face of the doc-in-the-box who says my labs are normal and so I would not benefit from thyroid supplementation! Roxanna Roxanna V. Knight-Plouff, D.V.M. Guest guest
Hi, , Keep us posted! I sure hope the Armour works well for you. I've been on Paxil before. But I didn't come off like you. I came off to go on something else. LOL I think my depression was adrenal related and I almost proved it. I got a doctor to let me try Cortef for 9 months and I was reducing the antidepressant during that time and doing OK. But when I had to come off the Cortef, it was " hell " like you say. So anyway, take care and hope you get well! in Va. WOW! Just read GOBs (and that really means GOBs, not " good ol boy " or " gee oh boy " but GOBs - LOTS ;o)) of emails from you all and feel so " normal " . Have been sooooo frustrated with medical establishment (although my best friends hubby is a dr...can be tense, at times...esp with my being in perimenopause and trying to find answers APART from the AMA people.....;o)).....have always had low temps and low blood pressure and, after the reading i have done in the past couple years, wondered WHY no one ever thought anything until i asked to be thyroid tested. naturally, the tests came back normal. duh. then went through the " heavy bleeding " /non stop phase a few months ago, so they put me on .....ta da....birth control..... duh AGAIN.... then struggled with mild depression so they put me on....zippedy doo dah - PAXIL... now, trying to figure out it all ON MY Own...am off the paxil and the withdrawal has been the closest thing to hell i have ever experienced....NATURALLY no one warned me " oh BTW, when you decide to go off this, your head will spin for weeks....you will be so irritable that murder will seem too lenient a punishment for your children....you will cry at anything and everything.... " duh duh duh.... ok...you guys convinced me...i am ORDERING ARMOUR right now...as soon as i am done typing.... THANKS, ladies.... karen

I was saying that if a doc was gonna treat thyroid problems - then for sure they should have studied everything out there about the thyroid. I am certain that they do not. I think too many of them these days do their doctoring by lab tests and what the drug reps tell them. That's not good enough. The system is broke. And i don't think it is going to be fixed anytime soon. Cindi
Guest guest
I think that Drs need to experience more themselves before they can become good at what they do. They follow the textbook stories....which have little to do with complexities of real life. Remember that movie with Hurt where the interns /residents had to suffer all the diagnostic tests before ordering them for patients? That changed their attitudes in a snap about patient compassion! I think they should really do that for training. Well, there is always kharma..... Roxanna Roxanna V. Knight-Plouff, D.V.M. Guest guest
Isn't it a GREAT feeling! :-) Roxanna V. Knight-Plouff, D.V.M. W Plouff North Star German Shepherd Dog Rescue Inc northstargsdr@... www.northstargsdr.org RE: need to complain a little I think I read " somewhere " that if you feel better after exercise, it is a thyroid issue,(since exercise stimulates the thyroid) if you feel worse after exercise, it is your adrenals that need the help. I think most every issue is a combination of both, and which came first is a mystery. I, personally feel better after I exercise, just getting the blood moving helps my leg aches, and my head seems clearer too. I do whatever it takes to exercise first thing, because I will feel better for the rest of the day. I have noticed though, since I added the HCortisone, I can exercise longer, and do not feel fatigued afterwards. This has been expecially noticeable since I usually ride a bike outside, and it has been in the high 90's with a heat index of 110 or so. A few weeks ago, I would do that and feel wiped out from the heat. After the HC, I just kept on going..Yahoo! nne * Hi, Roxanna, Ain't it the truth!
