Guest guest
Does anyone know if you have low thyroid if it makes your diabetes worse?
Guest guest
Many diabetics are hypothyroid (low thyroid). I was hypothyroid for 30 years before my diabetes diagnosis. But it doesn't make your diabetes worse or affect your diabetes in any way. It's just another medical condition. Guest guest
Thyroid replacement hormones, such as synthroid, may raise bgs. Helen
Guest guest
Gosh, I just sent a post saying it didn't do anything to diabetes. Was I wrong? I've been taking Levothroid since before I was diabetic...so maybe it does have an effect on BGs but since I've been taking it since before I was diabetic, I guess I wouldn't have noticed that it raised BGs. Of course, you did say " may, " smile. Guest guest
Vicki, from rxlist - >Use of levothyroxine sodium in patients with concomitant diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus may aggravate the intensity of their symptoms. Guest guest
I believe you, smile. But.from my own experience, I didn't notice any change because it was that way from the very beginning. Now, if I got diabetes first then became hypothyroid, if there was any effect I'd certainly have noticed it. I did get one part right though...a lot of diabetics do have pre-existing thyroid problems. I know this from all my years on the lists. It seems that thyroid affects everything, and low thyroid, since it encourages weight gain, can have an effect on diabetes issues for some people. I have anemia, which often has the same symptoms as thyroid, and until you get either or both straightened out, it can be hard to feel well. My BG's were high (for me) again this morning. I'm wondering if my dawn effect dump is starting earlier. I've heard it can move around a bit, timewise. 145 and I didn't eat anything for dinner but a pork chop and 4oz brocolli (unlike the previous night's sugar snap peas). Very provoking. I had two eggs and 8 oz of V-8 juice for breakfast. I don't normally " do " juice but it seemed my body was craving it. At 9 carbs for the 8 ounces it's not too bad. sky Type 2 dx'd 9/04. Low carb diet. Synthroid, Lotril Finds any excuse not to exercise.
Guest guest
Don't forget, " time wise " -- we've recently fiddled with the clock. Our biological clocks tend to be grumpy about silly things like daylight savings time. SulaBlue --- In diabetes_int , Sky <skydancer9@c...> > That would be me. I take synthroid.
