Hi, wow, I am so happy to find this group. I am starting my second

week of induction and I can really tell a big difference. But I have

a problem this week because my nature of work is going to interfere

with my dinner. I go to work at 4:30pm, and I try to eat something

before I go to work, but, I don't get home until about 11pm. By the

time I get home I am absolutely starving. I don't want to ruin my

progress but I don't know what to do. If I don't eat, I wake up in

the middle of the night starving even more. So, is it ok to eat

something small with no carbs, like tuna salad or fish/chicken with a

green salad. I don't know if it is ok to eat something and then go

to bed or not. This is the first diet I have ever been on and am so

excited with the results I am seeing. I am brand new to all of this

and don't have any clue on what to do. If you can help I would

really appreciate it and hopefully I can do the same for someone else

someday. I am a waiter so we aren't allowed to bring food to work

and eat at a decent time and am to busy to stop and eat anything

while at work. Would a Atkins shake or bar or something really quick

help with this problem. Thank you for any input and look forward to

future conversation. Kent

Kent,

If you are hungry, and feel like eating before going to bed, then prepare a

meal and eat. It's important not to let yourself get so hungry that you

make bad food choices.

Regarding shakes and bars, I don't generally recommend the bars for regular,

frequent consumption in place of a meal. There is just no substitute for

good, fresh real food. But if you occasionally need a quick easy snack to

keep you from going off plan, then they are just the ticket, as long as you

don't notice that they take you out of ketosis or set you up for craving

sweets.

Hi Kent,

If I had just worked a whole shift at work on my feet without eating, I would

certainly be hungry

too! My advice is to work out a plan of eating regular meals: breakfast,

lunch, supper and a

couple small snacks is what I find helpful. I don't like to eat breakfast, but

I get much hungrier

at night if I don't eat breakfast. (If you aren't eating much during the day

before you go to work,

I'd think that would add to the problem of being hungry late at night.)

We talk a lot about tweaking the diet to meet our needs... it might be a bit

tougher for you because

of your schedule. That sounds rough, I would have a hard time with it too.

I'm sorry I don't have any better advice than to try something out and see how

you do... but I think

that to some extent that many of us have had to do that. I know that I have,

although I don't have

the same challenges that you and some other people do. So, if you are losing

weight, then you eat

meals late at night and don't lose weight, that could point to a problem.

If you post what you are eating at what times of day, I think that the folks

here will be able to

give you a lot of good feedback.

Welcome to the list! I'm glad you found us.

Hi Kent

Welcome to the group. I'm glad to finally see your post! (Yahoo! does it

again!)

Yes, it's very much okay to eat before you go to bed. Just be sure that

since you're " starving " you don't gorge or even worse, get into the foods

you shouldn't be eating.

Now, I have to say something about your job. You are being treated

unfairly. Having a family who owns restaurants, and having done quite a bit

of waiting on tables myself I know a bit about this. For a 6 and 1/2 hour

they are required to give you a break. If you are not allowed to bring food

onto the premises, then they are also required to provide you with food.

Yes, they can limit your selection, but (I don't know which state so I don't

know the exact laws, but it's a minimum of 15 minutes no matter what) heck,

in 15 minutes you ought to be able to wolf down a cup of salad or a hamburg

patty. :)
