Guest guest
Welcome Christy. Atkins DOES work. I lost 57 pounds a couple of years ago on it and was maintaining until I got pregnant. Now I'm starting all over again and feel confident I'll be back into my 'skinny' clothes...hopefully by fall! Sue D At 11:45 AM 4/9/01 -0400, you wrote: Hello, I've just joined this list. I want and NEED to lose quite a bit of weight. I tried the SlimFast thing, and it just doesn't work for me. I've hear a lot about the Atkins Diet and want to know if it's the right way to go. It seems to work but I hear almost as much negative stuff about it as I do positive. Too much fat, bad for the heart, etc. I also need a diet that will work in taking off more than just five or ten pounds. I would really like to hear some honest opinions on both the good and bad, how hard it is to actually stay on the diet, since sugar is my worst problem, etc, if anyone has the time. Thanks. Guest guest
Welcome to the list Christy. I'm and I started Atkins on June 16, 2000. I've lost 70 lbs and here are my stats: 240/171/150. As you can see I still want to lose about 21 more lbs but I'm not complaining, going from a size 26 to a 12 is nothing to complain about :-D My doctor recommended Atkins to me and it is perfectly safe as long has you have healthy kidneys. This is an easy diet to stay on because you get to eat such great food. I'm glad you found us.

Guest guest
Welcome Christy. You came to the right place. Don't listen to the negative remarks about this way of eating. This diet works. As far as sticking to it . It depends on how bad you want to lose weight. This is not a fad diet. It is a life time of eating. You do have to change your way of thinking about food. When your body goes into ketosis it is easy to stick to. You can do this. Read as much as you can regarding low carb eating. Good Luck Christy. Guest guest
Hello Christy... I heard tons of negative stuff about it before I started too. I've been doing it for over a year now, lost 40 pounds and have never been in better health in my life!!! My blood pressure is way down, my cholesterol is in the healthy range, my mood-swings and food-related lethargy/fatigure are gone, gone, gone! Never before had I been able to lose weight and not only keep it off but keep losing... even after a full year! At first it's not the easiest thing to do but it does get easier and most importantly it's a shift of thinking... no longer are you just on a DIET, instead you make a change to a new Way Of Eating. You'll need to continue eating low-carb-friendly meals/snacks if you want to keep your weight off. Keep in mind that as soon as you go off ANY " diet " and return to your former eating habits, you WILL regain weight... that is just a simple fact and reality. You =can= do this, I know it! I was a major carb-addict... loved bread and sugar and chips. Now, I know how bad they are for me and how good for me a low-carb way of eating is. I'm sure you will get a lot of feedback from others as well, but that's my two cents :-) -Marlena (who still wants to lose another 20 pounds) >From: Elcee9@... >Reply-To: Atkins_Support_List >To: Atkins_Support_List >Subject: Hello >Date: Mon, 9 Apr 2001 11:45:10 EDT > >Hello, >I've just joined this list. Guest guest
Hi Christy, Welcome to the group. I've only been here since (I think) December. I do know I started this diet the Monday before Thanksgiving (stupid....stupid.....stupid). I've already lost 38 lbs and am hoping for a bunch more. This is surely working for me and I'm not hungry and do not feel deprived at all. I have a DH who sits and eats ice cream, chips, donuts, cheese doodles, cookies (you name it....if it's sweet or crunchy he'll eat it) all evening. It doesn't bother me at all because I know what I'm doing is good for me. I'm learning to cook healthier for my family, not to mention myself. About the only thing I cook for the family that I don't eat right along with them is starchy foods. I just omit those for myself. The meats and non-starchy veggies we eat are the same so it makes it rather easy for me to cook this way. I believe we all have heard all the negatives about this WOE (way of eating). My thinking is that losing weight cannot be bad for me in any way. I just make certain I take my vitamins/minerals/oils each day so I'm still getting everything I need to be healthy. I've learned a lot from this group and hope you do also. Enjoy getting healthier! dwen Elcee9@... wrote: Hello, I've just joined this list. I want and NEED to lose quite a bit of weight. Guest guest
Skelton, How long have you been doing Atkins? Your bloodwork numbers will be a great testimonial to how this WOE can work for those with both high cholesterol and diabetes. Terry

Guest guest
I live in Melvin Village NH which is near Wolfeboro. I was just diagnosed in January and I am being treated at the Lahey Clinic. I've entered into a clinical trial for celebrex. You have had PLS for 30 years? What is the difference between PLS and ALS? This is all new to me. Thanks for writing. Re: Hello .
