yeast infection question

hi, i just joined this group because i have been experiencing yeast-related problems for about two months that seemingly came out of nowhere and will not go away. i have never had problems like this, and normally have a pretty healthy vagina that never causes me problems. i am feeling so frustrated and annoyed and am hoping someone will have useful advice for me. so i got a yeast infection two months ago, and used monistat for it, kind of knowing this was a bad idea but assuming that it would make it go away quickly. after a few days, it didn't seem to work, so i tried inserting garlic and yogurt into my vagina for about a week. this worked in terms of getting rid of the yeasty discharge and itching, but things still did not seem right. while there was not much discharge or odor, my vagina felt really dry and i found that sex was very painful. i went to

the gynecologist a week ago for these symptoms and she told me that my efforts to cure the yeast infection had made my vagina too acidic in ph and advised me to bathe in water with baking soda dissolved in it several times a day. i did this for four days and found that it made the yeast infection-like symptoms return, sort of. lots more itching and burning than before, and a thicker discharge but not cottage cheese like, like i've experienced with yeast infections. does anyone have any idea what is going on or what i can do about it? i tend to prefer herbal or homeopathic treatments and would typically never use a product like monistat, and i am so annoyed with myself for having tried it and causing these problems. i drink alcohol fairly regularly and definitely do not have a sugar-free diet, and i take birth control pills, so i don't know if any of those habits would contribute to the yeast problems i am having, but i haven't recently changed the amount of sugar

i eat and i have been taking the pill for about 6 months. for the past few days i haven't been doing any kind of specific treatment and the symptoms seem to be getting worse. please let me know anything you can think of that might help! --bonnie
