NEUROSARCOIDOSIS --- Cranial Nerves

12 Cranial Nerves

1.  OLAFACTORY -  Anosima ( absence of smell )

Hyposmia ( diminished smell )  Dysosmia ( impaired smell )'

2.  OPTIC - decreased or blurred vision;  visual field defects;

puppilledema ( abnormal ) accumulation of fluid on the optic disk

3.  OCULOMOTOR - diplopia ( double vision ); ptosis; size of

pupil; nystagmus; ophthalmoplegia ( paralysis of the eye muscle)

4.  TROCHLEAR - opthalmoplegia

5.  TRIGEMINAL - facial numbness; unilateral ( one-sided);

hypesthesia ( abnormally decreased sensitivity to stimuli);

three divisions 1) opthalmic  2) maxillary  3) manibular;

sensorimotor neuropathy

6.  ABDUCENS - opthalmoplesia

7.  FACIAL NERVES - paresis ( slight or incomplete paralysis

as in Bell's Palsy)  on one or both sides;  uveoparotid fever

(Heerfordt's)

8.  ACOUSTIC - ( TWO DIVISIONS ) 1) Vestibular  2) Auditory

dizziness with or without vertigo; tinnitus; diminished caloric

response; impaired Weber ( tuning fork placed on vertex of skull); impaired Rinne ( comparing bone conduction and air

conduction);  impaired Romberg ( balancing with eyes closed);

sensorineural hearing loss

9.  GLASSOPHARYNGEAL ( taste) -- hypobeusia ( dimished sense of taste)

10.  VAGUS - voice

11.  ACCESSORY -  paresis of sternocleidomastoid and

trapezius muscles  ( shoulder area and wing bone area)

12.  HYPOGLOSSAL - ( Tongue ) -- atrophy ( wasting away )

of tongue;  tongue deviation to involved side;

Dysarthria  ( imperfect speech )
