HI Sandi, ;)

You've probably seen this post (below) about accutane with a woman who took it orally, I sent on maybe a year ago and she is totally against it... as for myself I'd probably never use it with the side effects, but I'd ask a dermatologist about it since you're saying you have a lot of sebum in the vulvar area. That too is just something I would 'think' is pretty rare but who knows? It might be possible. I'm just so sorry hon and know you're grasping at anything that might seem related so I understand. *sigh*

Hugs and love ya.

Dee~

----------------------------------- HI all,

This is an old 'old' post from another vulvar pain list I was on yrs ago, I saved her post regarding accutane and vulvodynia because of 'that' connection and her mentioning it inflamming and attacking the lubricating glands. I've NO idea if her email still works or not and I do so with her own statement suggesting people contact her and why I've left the name. (normally we'd never do that without permission) I hope it helps a bit. I've not seen the subject of accutane come up since then till now. (other than the FDA adding their Black Box warnings) I'll add a few more notes under her post. I hope it helps hon but she is definitely against it. Dee~ _________________________________Hi All,I have had vulvodynia for 8 years. I am now 28. Mine started aftertaking a prescription drug by the name of accutane. I have found a fairly good size group of women who can also link their vulvodynia back to accutane. Most of these women's vulvodynia started a year or two after taking accutane. .This drug has been linked to attacking and inflaming the lubricatingglands in the body such as the tear glands in the eyes and the bartholinglands in the vaginal area - cuasing vulvar pain.

I had my bartholin glands removed last November and have seen some relief. I am looking into the possibility of getting a group of women together who can track their vulvar pain to this drug.In fact, I have come to notice from the respondents that this is the mostcommon. Just an update, recently myself and another patient of thesame doctor that I see here in Portland, Oregon took our informationabout accutane to him. He is interested in it and may be doing someresearch on it. Ultimately, my goal is to protect other young womenfrom having to go through this awful experience if it is possible (bynot taking this drug). Many women, because the vulvar pain started ayear or two after taking the drug, do not automatically make theconnection to the drug.I have found a couple of things that have worked for me to alleviatethe pain. One, having the bartholin glands removed (that is where thepain was coming from, that is what the accutane attacked andinflamed). Another, has been to have Candela laser treatments. Iknow this sounds a bit scary to some women who have been told to stayaway from lasers, but this type of laser is very safe and gentle. It is the same kind used to remove strawberry birthmarks from childrenand vericose veins from adults. It goes beneath the skin and deadinsthe nerve endings. I have done this four times now and have receiveda lot of relief from it. It does not damage the skin in that area atall.I am interested in working towards possibly getting this drug pulled off of the market or at least a warning on the packaging so that more young women are not permanently hurt by this drug. Please reply back if you have ever been on this drug or if you know ofanyone who has vulvodynia that can be linked to this. It is very important for the research that we have begun.Thank you.Helen Lushenko =================================================I've added these just FYI.
