Guest guest
Question: Those of you that have children under the age of 6 that are up to date on vaccinations... will you give the MMR and Hep B boosters prior to entering kindergarten or other public school classrooms? Ian is not even 3 years old. I know I have some time. I just need to think this all through. I still cannot rule out that vaccines had something to do with triggering his apraxia. I currently have a 5 year old in private Christian Kgarten. She will go to 1st grade next year in a public school. I have not had her boosters done and am hesitant to do so. She shows no signs of any delays, disorders, etc (unless you call being a feisty girl a disorder!). My DH is a physician. You all know how he feels about vaccinations! I am hoping over the next few years that the correct information emerges about vaccinations (whatever that may be!). Any opinions? Guest guest
Hi the MMR gives protection to 90% of all kids the first time it is given - so 90% of kids do not need the booster at all. If yoiu get your Dr to do a titre test this may well establish that your child has absoloutely no need for this one. ( although if jab has not " taken " first time I am still not sure why any one thinks it will take in that particular child if they are just jabbed again - but thats just me ) Regards Deborah
Guest guest
Pam, My 3 older children (now15,14, and 10) were not given their boosters until they turned 6. My doctor explained to me the brain is fully developed by that age and a note from my pediatrician explaining the children would be immunized on their 6th birthday was sufficient for the school nurse. My youngest, the 4th child, who is apraxic, was given a blood titer test for the MMR and it shows he is still immuned from his earlier shot by a large margin. He is currently 7 and in NJ he will only need to receive a DT booster and not the pertussis. Advise your pediatrician of your concerns and you may come up with a mutual plan for a vaccination schedule. You may want to do a titer on all his vaccinations. Hope this helps. Guest guest
My autustic son is almost 3 1/2 and goes to a special preschool at my 5 year old's school.I could not get a medical waiver because the doctor doesn't think one has to do with the other, yet she won't write and sign a statement saying she guarantees my children won't have any harmful side effects so i printed a religious belief affadavit off the computer, signed it in front of a notary and took it to the board of education. You can do it on PERSONAL religious beliefs,no questions asked here and now i don't have to worry about it. Guest guest
Pam, your dh is a doc which makes it not so simple but I would ask that titers be run instead of doing those boosters. There are still some brands of HepB that do contain the full amount of thimerosal. The MMR never contained thimerosal but the concern has been with the combi vaxes and their impact on the neurological system, and the gastrointestinal tract (of some autistic children--live vaccinal measles living in their gut, spinal fluid, and brain years later). Just get titers run-- do not do the boosters. Chances are his titer will show enough " immunity " . Hopefully your dh will keep an open mind as information continues to come to light over the next few years. W > > My DH is a physician. You all know how he feels about > vaccinations! Guest guest
You might want to investigate what is the dose for that DT or tetanus shot-- on an autism list, a mother investigated this and found out that it is an ADULT size shot that is given to all children after age 7. I have a hard time rationalizing why a child needs (or whether they can safely handle) an adult size dose. Guest guest
I believe WA state (where I live) has the personal beliefs exemption... basically, you just have to say you don't believe in vaccinations. I will titre Ian at age 5. That is what I had planned on doing all along. I am leaning toward titres for my 5.5 yr old Olivia (no issues) to avoid unnecessary vax. My 7 yr old did get the boosters with no apparent problems. Now to convince my husband I'm not pulling out the tinfoil hat again (he thought I was nuts when I put Ian on the gfcf diet last February. He is no longer on it since it wasn't what we needed). Pam
Guest guest
Pam, See if your husband will watch this news story. It is from a Detroit News Channel and the doctor's interviewed for the story are very credible. Everyone with children or with a child on the way should watch it before they vaccinate. Go to: http://www.detnow.com/investigations/vaccines/index.html Click on " watch the entire investigation " . -KIM [ ] Re: Booster shots before Kindergarten??? > I believe WA state (where I live) has the personal beliefs > exemption... basically, you just have to say you don't believe in > vaccinations. > > I will titre Ian at age 5.
