You eat 100 carbs a day, did I understand that right? That's way too many.

About half that much would bring huge improvement immediately without any need

for insulin or meds.

My co-pay for insulin is the middle one -- not generic and not " we hate this

brand and will make you pay a ton if you want it " so I pay $20 for insulin,

whether pens or vials. The insulin pens come 5 to a box, each pen with 3 ml of

insulin. I shoot for everything I eat (and I eat pretty low carb, generally

between 50 and 75 grams per day, and 5 pens last me about 5 weeks. Pen needles

come 100 to a box, and I use 3-5 a day, depending, so again, good for about a

month, $20. co pay.

Syringes are the same as pen needles, 100 to a box, $20 co pay though

apparently there are brands that are cheaper than my co-pay but I haven't looked

into

that yet. A vial of insulin has 10 ml of insulin in it.

The advantage of the pen is that once you start it, it's good for 30 days (I

know many people use them longer, and I'm not advocating or saying anything

against that). Same for the vial, but the vial holds much more, so if you don't

use it all, you're tossing it, whereas with the pen, you're not tossing as

much.

Humalog sells prefilled pens and pen cartridges for the novo pen. Novolog

comes in prefilled pens or in a reusable pen with pen cartridges.

The other big advantage of a pen, to me, is the convenience when out and

about. Less trouble to inject.

Whoa!

We don't dictate how someone else should deal with their own diabetes! Every

person is different and chooses according to their own preferences.

Plus, the whole point of SulaBlue's post was that she wants some freedom to

eat higher carb meals at times, she wasn't asking about how best to control her

diabetes.

If eating 50 grams of carbs a day works well for you, you can share that

experience, but please refrain from making a judgement about what someone else

chooses to do.

Well excuse me, I thought the entire point of this email list exchange was

how to best control diabetes, I didn't realize it was to encourage people to eat

how they want and take meds to cover.

I wasn't making a judgment -- the problem was apparent.
