Guest guest
Hi there, Thank you for clarifying a lot of the details of the study. It actually listed CHERAB foundation that conducted the study. I will write notes from the powerpoint handout we got. I am not sure if this is new info or old just so everyone is aware of that. I think they have recently done another study. The information was presented by Louise-, CCC/SP/L from Tuscon AZ (I think U of A. We didn't get all the notes from the study on the handout.) There were 22 subjects with Autism or Aspgers, 3-10 years old.. 18 completed study (is this a different study?) All scores where found to increase from pre-test to post-test. It was found to be highly unlikely moving by chance. They used 1 ProEFA a day and said that more was not generally better. A case study she presented was " " (I'll give you a brief rundown). -dx ASD at 17 months of age by ped. neurologist -inital speech/lang eval at 17 months displayed significant speech delay with disorder -Nic. did not come when called nor did he localize to his name when called. He didn't follow simple requests (come here). He did not imitate sounds or words. Nic was nonverbal generally utilizing " means-end " to obtain desired items. Obsessed with lights, limited eye contact, Supplemented with EFAs (also started diet) -Nic began taking 115 mgs of DHA at 18 months of age -Started imitating a few words 9 days into supplementation -Had nine functional words by 25 days into supplementation -Looking for mother when she left room and would say " mama " -23 months of age his language comphension and expression were nearing average range although did not generalize across enviornments -26 months of age he had acquired 75% of the expected developmental language skills for his age -34 months of age his language skills were noted to be generally age appropriate with generalization across settings -Today he is highly social and verbal child attending preschool with his peers. These notes are almost word for word from her notes. I have a couple parent statements from Kim and Schlabach that the SLP included. One said the study was done in Sept 2002... so I am not sure if this is or isn't the same study was speaking about. I don't have written down much more info. Dr. Gordon Bell, University of Sterling, Scotland conducted research measuring lipids in red blood cells of 7 children with ASD and 7 children in the control group. The red blood cells of the ASD children contained less omega 3s than the control group. He is currently conducting a much larger study. This info probably didn't clarify anything for anybody.. sorry - that's all I know. Take care and God Bless,
