Guest guest
There is considerable disagreement in the prostate cancer world as to whether it is wise to surgically remove a tumour that has been verified as Gleason Grade 9, the main objection being that there is a higher probability of the tumour having spread beyond the prostate gland. From my point of view, a consultation should be arranged with a clinical oncologist, preferably one with experience in prostate cancer, after getting a second opinion from an expert pathologist – see http://www.yananow.net/pathlabs.htm The oncologist specializes in cancer: an oncologist does not make a living out of surgery, as most urologists do. I would also suggest that these questions http://www.yananow.net/questions.htm should be answered before any final decision is made. The last doctor I discussed my case with was willing to schedule me for the following week. My cancer is also aggressive with a Gleason score of 9 too. They said they really can’t defiantly determine T2 or T3 until they perform the biopsy after surgery. The one dissenting opinion want to put me on a hormone and possibly chemo treatment for 6 months and then perform the prostectomy. We have gotten two opinions for treatment (an original and a second) of my dads prostate cancer. Both drs agree that he is not a candidate for the robotic type surgery. However, one dr says he would do the operation fairly right away (around Oct 20th) and the other dr says he would wait until beginning of Dec. His logic was that area needs time to recover from the biopsy. His biopsy was two weeks ago. They both agree that his cancer is aggressive. He is staged at T3 with a gleason score of 9.
