Guest guest
HI Mara and all, I just wanted to say how much I agree with you on your whole post & about the cause & effect of foods and yeast infections not necessarily being connected. I know an anti-yeast diet surely did nothing for me no matter how many times I'd try one or shove yogurt up there or eat it by the buckets. Didn't do a thing for 'me'. From all I've read it's that 'stress' is one of the biggest initiators of a yeast infections. Like they used to say about Ulcers " it's not what you're eating, but what's eating you!" and generally it's because our immune system isn't working properly and out of balance and nothing can screw up our immune systems more than 'stress' and I DO mean biologically even if we think we're coping. We all carry some yeast and it's a symbiotic relationship that is normally kept at bay without problems. So of course tests or cultures 'will' show we have yeast but that doesn't mean it's necessarily causing a problem. On the other hand though when it does WOW.... talk about a HOT SEAT with the pain... and I never got an itch with one either just that 'extreme' excoriation & inflammation. Whew... Anyway I recall a doctor asking me when I was younger and got them constantly 'What problems or stress are you under, what about your relationship with your husband, or money or job," etc, etc.etc.....Well I'd read all the books about Yeast, Crooks etc..etc and was convinced he couldn't be right & I thought he was looney tunes at the time. I didn't realize that I 'was' having problems, being more of a Stepford wife 'at the time' *grin* and kept convincing myself of things (oh we women are good at that)... but it was only in hindsite and after the divorce I was able to see things a lot more clearly. Never rule out stupidity or that need to please either, but believe me it was stress! BIG TIME. *sigh* Well the doctor was absolutely right. Once I got rid of my 'stressor' and he became an ex, LOL I rarely ever got one after the divorce. Maybe 3 in 15 yrs where previously it was probably 7-9 a yr. And no I wasn't on birth control pills either or antibiotics and ate very healthy. Since then I've tried to do a lot of reading up on yeast infections and yes we can get into all the properties of one like the overgrowth or undergrowth of bacteria, lactobacilli, the various strains or even the antibiotics. etc..... and I know antibiotics can trigger yeast in some cases..(though they never did me) .. but what I keep running into far too often is how it's often tied in with 'STRESS" as the 'trigger'. The same major trigger for anyone who's got any type of autoimmune disease or even a viral disease like HPV in paps or Herpes as well. Bring on the stress and out will pop it's ugly head. Not that knowing it is stress eliminates it and we all have that if we live... but just to say that I agree with Mara that I myself don't think it's tied into that much of what we eat. I sure ate anything since the divorce & to this day, *grin* but I'm pretty much a happy camper too. By the way I do hope you all know I'm not counting those who are Gluten sensitive or have Celiac of course, diet is extremely important for those people or those who know absolutely certain foods will trigger a flare up.. but I think 'generally' it's not a 'cause' of yeast infections but get the 'stress' going first and then diet may contribute but as a secondary thing, not the initiating cause. Just 'my' $.02 cents worth of course *grin* It's a debate that will go on till the end of time I'm sure. *smile*. Hugs to all Dee~
