I dont know if it's the ProEFA, the hearing impaired preschool class, or a

combination. But this Saturday Hope said her FIRST SENTENCE!!!!

She was out in the living room with her sister and her dad playing. then she

came walking back into the sewing room where I was working on a quilt, and clear

as a bell said " Hi Mom " . She said it slow and naturally Mom came out " Ma " , but

it was clear what she said. :-)

We were just thrilled, and Hope's teachers at school were as well when I told

them about it this morning.

Hope is 3, she'll be 4 in May. She's been getting speech therapy since she was

18 months old. She was 14 months and talking fine, then started having

seizures. After that it's been a long time working with her to get her even

attempting to talk. Her neurologist diagnosed 'verbal apraxia' at 15 months due

to the nature of her lack of speech in relation to her seizures.

Re: [ ] Hope big news

Hi Toni,

I am new to the group, but wanted to say 'wow' and congratulations! How old is

your daughter? My son is 21 mos. and we have just started speech therapy. We

have not had a diagnosis other than 'significant speech disorder' and some

sensory integration issues.

Oh it was incredible. I was hand stitching a binding on a quilt when she said

it. I dropped the quilt and scooped her into a big hug. She just grinned and

grinned.

That's WONDERFUL news Toni!!! Doesn't it feel amazing?! When Hannah said

her first sentence.. " where it go? " I just cried and cried. :-) Please hug

your sweet girl for us and know that someone in Virginia is doing the " happy

dance " with you!

Hugs,

Wow.. same with Hannah. She had her first seizure at almost 14 mos. She'll

be 4 in September. Sounds like our girls have a couple of things in common!

Her MRIs and EEGs have been normal, however. This past Monday her

Neurologist said he no longer needed to see her. She's outgrown the

seizures and all tests have been clear. The only issue still remaining is

the speech, and I'm hopeful it won't be an issue for long. :-) Oh, and

she's deaf in her right ear.

Hopefully Hannah will come around for you soon. :-) Hope still has seizures

from time to time, but not nearly as bad as she did. she's on medication to

stop them. Her MRI's have been clear too, but not her EEGs. Her neurologist is

still saying since she was so young when they started, she has a really good

chance to outgrow them. Unfortunately she might not. My father-in-law was

adopted so we have no medical history from his family. For all we know seizure

disorder could be common in his family and just skipped his kids.

With Hope's new school she has to take her medication while she's there. I'm

used to when I was in school you sent the bottle with the pharmacy label on it

and a note from mom saying she needs to take it at this time. End of story. I

went in the first day and had to go to the nurse to fill out a 3 page form for

her to take it, and they had a page that had to be filled out by her doctor

saying she needed to take it. the nurse was telling me to just drop it off at

the doctor's office and bring it back. Yeah right. I'll do anything for my

girls but driving 50 miles one way to the neurologist's office to have a form

filled out is a little excessive. I called him and got his fax number, and gave

his assistant a heads up of what they needed on the form, and the nurse faxed it

to him instead.

Then after I got that paper all filled out and her doctor faxed it back the day

he got it, they called me yesterday to find out if she needed to eat with her

medicine or drink wter with it or something. The whole time I was on the phone

telling the nurse no, I just kept thinking 'what does it say on the forms? do

you see a sticker saying " take with food or water " on the bottle??' A friend of

mine was here when I got the phone call and she heard it all, giggling the whole

time. when I got off the phone I just looked at her and said " here's your

sign " . lol

No wonder it took us 5 hours to get her rebate forms filled out. lol

That's what happens when they tell mommy she wotn be able to have children, and

then finds out she's pregnant. It was just appropriate to name her Hope. And

her little sister is Faith. :-)
