Almost all diets get blamed when the person who has lost weight (or controlled their bg's) goes off the diet and then gains the weight back (or loses bg contfol)! It is not the diet that caused the weight-gain or control loss. It is the " going off the diet " that has caused the problem. Admittedly, many " diets " would be virtually impossible to maintain for life, but going totally back to the old WOE will surely lead to failure. Many have been there. I know I have!
