Good for you for being insistant, ! I can imagine how upsetting all

this has been for you. I'll call my mom tonight, but you may do better

asking the neurologist for a recommendation, assuming you trust her. Please

keep us posted!

Best to you and .

Hang in there and remember is the patient and these doctors need to work

with you and !

I wish you could see my endo. He is wonderful with children. He has several

ped patients. Of course,

he has five of his own.

Finally

has an appointment with the backup ped today at 2pm and I

cant wait. He gets out of school at 100 today so that will work

perfect. I have my blood counts ready I charted them I wrote when

the headaches started ,shaking when he would pee the bed (opps kinda

not a goog way to put that) How when get gets past 135 he lays and

is just wiped out. Iam ready and I have my tape recorder and tape

all ready. I had to do this with his old nero. It makes me so mad as

thease doctors are from the Universty of Virginia in Charlottesville

wich is a teaching hospital and he has gotten the worse care from

them each time. Any way Iam demanding that they arrange for a

tollerance test for william. They have given me enough of themI have

great tollerance but my patience is running thin with them.

He starts a new nero in jan in richmond that was the soonest for

that but she said that he shoud have this sugar test long before

that. I just talked to her she wanted the test done by now she told

me not to mess with the ped when I go in to ask them to get him into

and endo right away and that they can argue with her about it. She

said he is having to big of jumps and his bloodsugar should

especially be higher at night it is under 100 usually between 70 -90

and in the 80 by am sometimes it spikes higher his bedtime is 11/2

hours after dinner. shes concerned that his nighttime is so low and

his daytime can go135-261 then drop to 90 or below in a fast time

she said its not normal. This child hardly ever gets candy maybe 1

every 2 weeks and he dosnt get soda at all he dosnt like it. we dont

have sugar on the table we dont use it so we will see what the test

says. I have gone through the cupboards and checked levels on foods

and found out i need to make a lot of food from scratch . well this

to long and i keep getting off subject so i will let you go

Let's hope that it is not diabetes, but it does help to be prepared.

Please tell them that you want to be checked by the best Endocrinologist

that they have at that hospital...this is coming from someone who learned in

1976 that I first had a carbohydrate intolerance with reactive

hypoglycemia...which was discovered by a very good Endocrinologist doing a

5-hour Glucose Tolerance Test. (I don't think they do those any more, they have

a series of lab tests that they do now.)

http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/hypoglycemia/index.htm

For years, I took care of the situation with diet and exercise...about 10 years

ago, I went on meds for it...then about 6 years ago, when I developed bad

gastrointestinal problems that were caused by something else, they put me on

insulin, because at that time the meds were agravating the problem that I was

having then....but I have chosen and the doctor has agreed for me to stay on

insulin. I take my blood sugars 4 times per day...before each meal and at

bedtime.

Please tell them that you want him checked by an Endocrinologist, and look and

check the badge that the doctor is wearing or the name on his lab coat, to see

if they are, or a very good doctor of internal medicine....in addition to the

interns (who are learning to be doctors).

This website has a lot of helpful information, whether one is diabetic or

not...it helps to guide one in eating proplerly and explains what various food

do to our bodies.

Below is a quote from a website. I have learned that it always helps me to get

as educated as I can be when I go to the doctor....if they know that a person is

savy about these things, they will not brush us off. I ask and get copies of

" ALL " my reports, and those papers with the diagnosis that they give one when we

check out. If they give me the dull copy that I can't read, I have them make me

a copy of the original...something that I can read.

Diabetes Is On The Increase Among Children.

" Diabetes among children is rising rapidly. Diabetes is helped by

making corrections in diet. Please educate yourself on this.

The following article on diabetes is appropriate for all, no matter

what age. "

Please keep us posted and let us know what you find out.

I would not be surprised if they still do the old glucose test that

I mentioned in my previous post. A 3 or 4 hour test has the destinct

possibility of getting a diagnosis of diabetes when it is really

hypoglycemia. There are better test now.
