Guest guest
Hi all, I had a terrible experience seeing the doctor for my VVS today. I'm in the UK, and here you can see a local specialist for free *but* your choice is quite limited. So I had to go back to a doctor who I already knew I didn't like, and it went rather badly! I will gloss over the nasty details (I've cried for hours today over this), but the upshot is: due to her rough exam, there is a raw red split down the middle of my posterior fourchette. The skin here is prone to splitting anyway (I don't have LS), but it's not been this bad since I last tried to have sex years ago! I can't sit down properly, and it really hurts to pee - it really hurts, full stop. My question is: any advice as to what topical treatment to use on it? So far I have used Savlon - standard antiseptic cream, often used for nappy rash etc. A pharmacist suggested Vagisil, which contains mild local anaesthetic, but they were sold out of it. I have two special creams I've been prescribed: the topical steroid this doctor prescribed me last year (which I haven't yet used), and the topical estrogen another specialist prescribed which I regularly used until a few weeks ago. But I'm reluctant to use either on broken skin without being sure it's safe - although perhaps I'm being overly paranoid here. Also, I have some vitamin E oil - but again, I don't know if that's OK on broken skin. Please bear in mind I'm in the UK, so US brand names might not help. Suggestions of the main ingredients in soothing / healing creams might be good, though. Thanks in advance! Meredith
Guest guest
I believe I would borrow money and find a gyn/specialist to see that wasn't this one!. I might even get in writing from that doc how badly my skin was mangled so that I could file some kind of report against the one who would exam me so roughly as to tear my skin. Then I'd get the new doc to help me decide how to begin healing. Can you call your pharmacist and ask if the precription creams (2) which have been prescribed to you can be used on broken skin? They can probably also answer that for the Savlon, and the Estrace. Before I put Vagisil on it, I would inquire on the internet as to active and inactive ingredients. You might want to try 100% aloe on the wound, which is supposed to have healing properties - but be sure it's 100%. You don't need any other ingredients to further irriate or thin your skin. But check the label to see if it warns about NOT applying to broken skin. Calendula ointment has been useful to me too, but check the label about broken skin. These two items are found in healthfood stores here in U.S. or on the internet. Are the special prescribed creams steroid creams? You might not want to use them right now if they are steroids as they may well cause further splitting of the skin. Why did you stop the topical estrogen? Was it helping? Perhaps you could call that specialist who prescribed it and ask him or his secretary/nurse what would be the best course for you to follow. Maybe what you need is internal estrogen to restore the skin and you may need to speak to the specialist about estradial which is inserted, either in pill or cream form. File a complaint agains this person. Do not permit her to harm others as she has harmed you. That alone would make me feel better, if only for a moment. Hang in there, keep us posted, and good luck Dusty -----Original Message-----From: mermaid Sent: Tuesday, March 15, 2005 5:28 PMTo: VulvarDisorders Subject: split in posterior fourchette due to rough exam - HELP!Hi all,I had a terrible experience seeing the doctor for my VVS today. Guest guest
I'm so sorry for your experience. I would try the vitamin E oil. It does have healing qualities. My gyn suggested it for use on irritated vulvar skin. Hope you feel better soon. Ruth (Ruthiema) PS Document your experience and ask to see a different doctor! >
