who isn't touchy about this!?? :-) i am in health care and i take great

great care to pronounce and spell both first and last names right. it

makes a great difference to people, and my patients confirm this to me on a

daily basis. likewise colleagues & classmates- - - making the extra effort

is a way of " recognizing " a person. it is just basic respect to get

someone's name right. if we don't, then i think " oops, i'm sorry! " is a

great peace-making type of response rather than asking them what their

problem is. if it happens over and over again it does get upsetting.

just my opinion,

kathleen (aka kcd) <--- who HATES to be called kathy! :-)

You are right kathleen. Stacey I apologize to you. I was very tired and did not

realize

I had spelled your name incorrectly. I am not a good speller either. I just had

to

retype apologize because I had it wrong. This year I noticed I cannot spell

correctly

words I used to spell correctly. Senior moments?

I wasn't growling, I was making a request, and to be honest, I believe it was

Duncan's post that made me make my statement. Believe me, it's done by most

people on most of the lists I'm on, hence my decision to try to correct it.

It's not directed at anyone personally, but is more of a request.

As with anything, we all have things that bother some of us but not others.

Thanks

Stacey

My grandson's name is Jerimy. Half of the time I can't remember which

spelling it is, " Jerimy " or " " . I often wonder if parents who give

their children names with odd spellings realize what a hassle it'll cause

later on.

My married last name, which I have retained because it's such a pain to

change names, is rather long and Italian in origin. You wouldn't believe

the spellings and pronunciations I get for that. In most situations where

someone needs to call your name (ie: doctor's offices), I can watch someone

come out, stare at the sheet of paper in their hand for awhile, then call

me by my first name. Often I just save them all of that and say " here I am "

before they even try. Junk mail turns up with some truly bizarre spellings

that remind me of Czechoslovakian names. Pronouncations often err on which

syLABable to put the emPHAsis on.
