Hi Toni,

What IU and school district are you working with? I might be able to

help if it is the IU13.

Let me know.

Thanks,

Robin

IU = Intermediate Unit. Here they pick up for therapy and special services

for children after they turn 3 and before they reach school age. From birth

to 3 services are handled by Early Intervention. from 3-5 they're handled

by the IU, then from 5 on they're handled by the school district.

Robin,

I hope you don't mind my posting. Are you referring to the Lancaster

County, PA, IU13? If so, that is where I live and my sons IEP is

about to be scheduled (he turns 3 next month). If so, I'd love to

ask yous some questionds for advice, etc.

Thanks

Hi Kate,

Yes that is exactly who I am referring to. Please ask away. They

misdiagnosed my daughter for 12 years and still are fighting me on

issues. I would love to be able to help in any way that I am able to.

Have you been to the Schreiber Center in Lancaster for therapy for your

son? I would highly recommend that center as they are working very

well with my daughter now.

My e-mail address is ketchem01@....

Thanks,

Robin

ARE IU Services held all over or in certain states. My son is turning 3 in

november, however I am unable to send him to the Public School System Preschool

because they are only 1/2 day sessions and I work full time. I am currently also

looking for a speech therapist for him so we can still continue his speech

thereapy.

I'm not sure about all over. I can only speak for Pennsylvania.

Where I live after the child turns 3 it is then the school distict that has to

handle it and it is their responiblely. It may differ for state to state but in

Ohio that is the case. I would suggest contacting the school board's office and

asking to talk to a child's advocate person.

They don't have IUs in California. It's Early Intervention until

three, and then the school district takes over.

Here the IU basically assists the school district so they dont have to keep

a staff of different therapists on the payroll. They're supposed to work

together. We'll see what the letters I delivered today do.
