Guest guest
Hi Roque, it does exist and I've seen it in several places. I think this might be what you were talking about with the Yogurt & lactobacilli, from a Contin. med. ed. class with Dr. Nyirjesy. Dee~ Quote from Dr. Nyirjesy. "Currently, no evidence exists to support the use of exogenous lactobacilli, such as those found in yogurt." And these were comments from the same Cont. Med. Ed. class in the discussion afterwards.... Ms. Bosarge: Many people think that eating or douching with yogurt or buttermilk will help treat BV. While the goal of BV therapy is to restore lactobacilli in the vagina, the lactobacilli in yogurt is not the same strain that is found in the vagina. Furthermore, yogurt may be contaminated with Escherichia coli and other harmful bacteria. Mr. : Some women try lactobacilli capsules and powders, which are sold in health food stores. Again, these are not the 'hydrogen peroxideproducing' lactobacilli that are found in the vagina. This is an aside and something I (Dee) found interesting in the same talk. I didn't realize that the Clindamycin also kills the 'good lactobacilli bacteria' when using it to get rid of a bacterial infection. I guess it makes sense since it's all bacteria, some good, some bad. ''Mr. : CDC guidelines recommend three different medications for the treatment of BV: oral metronidazole, metronidazole gel, and clindamycin cream. I prefer not to use clindamycin cream because it may weaken latex condoms and diaphragms. Furthermore, the Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy 2002 indicates that clindamycin actually kills lactobacilli in addition to the bacteria associated with BV. This is important since lactobacilli are what we are hoping to recolonize during the treatment period.'' Hope that helps a bit. Dee~
