If you're having trouble viewing this email, you may see it online. URGENT Contact Governor Crist and his staff today! In spite of vigorous advocacy efforts by many stakeholders for individuals with developmental disabilities, the Florida House and Senate agreed on a 5% budget cut for all Developmental Disability Home and Community Based Medicaid Waiver providers, excluding the following services: adult dental, consumable medical supplies, durable medical equipment, environmental modifications and personal care assistance. The reductions are to go into effect on March 1, 2009. The total amount reduced on an annualized basis is $41.7 million dollars. This cut comes directly following two prior years of cuts totaling over $200 million. If we do not take action, these cuts will continue, as more cuts are expected in the upcoming fiscal year. It is important that our voices are heard. Please let the Governor know that you appreciate his December 23rd budget recommendations to the Legislature, when he said it was of paramount concern that Florida "continue to provide critical services to the most vulnerable Floridians - our elders, disabled persons and children." Then tell him you want him to veto the 5% provider cuts in the Agency for Persons with Disabilities budget. Charlie.Crist@...
