Guest guest
Hi - I've just got a minute, but I wanted to fill you in a bit about ProEFA. Some people on this board use Coromega (like you), some use Efalex, but many of us have found that the best mix of Omega 3 and Omega 6 is in the ProEFA. It is available from the shop-in-service on the apraxia kids website. I've seen some great results in my two boys with it - and, if we take them off, I see regressions, so I know it's the EFAs. That said - you've got your son on alot of supplements. The cod liver oil and the coromega are both (I'm assuming) to support the EFAs, but my guess is he's getting ALOT if you give him both. Since they thin the blood, and many of us have seen adverse effects when a child is given too much, I'd stop doubling up. Since many of us tried the CLO route and didn't find any benefit, AND since it's the cheapest of what you mentioned, I'd stop that. If you aren't seeing substantial benefits with the coromega, try the ProEFA. I have a 4 year old son who weighs about 45 lbs and he gets one cap a day. Some people here have success with 2 a day - my advice is to give one a day for a while and see if you get benefits. Then, very systematically, try increasing to 2. See if his system can handle it. What about the other supplements? The DMG, etc.?? Do you see benefits? I know how much we all want to help our children, and if you had told me 3 years ago that I'd be giving my kids a supplement I heard about on the internet, I'd have gone slap-happy, BUT you are giving alot of supplements (it seems) and I'm wondering how many of them are helping. I'm also wondering IF they are helping, if you can TELL which one is helping because there are so many. Sometimes it takes a while (months) to see if something has benefits. If I put a kid on DMG, Coromega, Carnosine, L-Lysine, B-6, etc. all at once or in a short period of time, I'd never know what was beneficial and what wasn't - and I'd spend ALOT of money! I know that some people have had benefits with DMG (anyone here??), that the B vitamins have been shown to help autistic kids, that some amino acids have helped our kids (mine are on carnosine) BUT I think we all agree that we need to be careful about mixing and matching too many. EFAs can act as blood-thinners. Some of the amino acids can be dangerous in too great quantities (and no one really knows how much that is). Research research research - and you've come to a good spot here to talk to people and you're obviously eager for knowledge because you keep asking!!! So, I hope I've helped a bit - and I hope that others will jump in here and give you their two cents. Welcome - have a great day.
