SPEAK (St Louis Parent Extension for Apraxic Kids) is proud to

present a workshop with Dr. Kenn Apel:

Workshop Title: " Encouraging Literacy Development for Children with

Speech/Language Disabilities "

Presenter: Kenn Apel, CCC-SLP, Ph.D.

Date: June 7, 2003

Location: Metropolitan Life, General American Building, St. Louis, MO

Children with a history of speech/language disabilities are at a high

risk for developing reading, writing, and spelling difficulties.

Armed with this fact and the knowledge and skills supported by

research to prevent, assess, and, if needed, remediate literacy

problems, speech-language pathologists, other school-based

professionals, and parents can make a real difference in the lives of

these children.

Kenn Apel, PhD., CCC-SLP is professor and chair of the Department of

Communicative Disorders and Sciences at Wichita State University,

Wichita, Kansas, and a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing

Association. His research and teaching interests deal with typical

and non-typical language/literacy development, with a specific focus

on reading and spelling.
