Definitely get a sample of the spf 25 before you buy it. I was interested to read that, according to her, not all sunscreens provide the same amount of protection from UVA, the type of radiation recently linked more to skin cancer than UVB. She says that a sunscreen must contain one or more of the three ingredients to be effective ( and be at leasst 15 SPF): 1) titanium dioxide 2) avobenzone (Parsol 1789) 3) zinc dioxide (In Canada and Australia avobenzone may be listed as butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane or Parsol 1789) On the recent product list posted here Ambre Solaire SPF60 and Neutrogena Moisture Day Lotion SPF 15 - Derm. Formula are listed, and I noticed they don't contain any of these three, so perhaps they are not good choices. She also says Non-comedogenic is the new fad in claims by cosmetics makers, but doesn't really mean anything because anything has the potential to clog pores, depending on the person. Finally, FYI, she points out that she has not found any sunscreens designed for children that contain these ingredients. I think this is outrageous! Margaret C. Hi, Same here. Parsol is very irritating to my skin - stings, burns, turns bright red. I use Clinique City Block when I have to be in the sun. I do well with products that contain titanium dioxide. Guest guest Posted November 8, 1999 Report Share Posted November 8, 1999 Sun Sensitive people may want to check out www.sunprecautions.com hi. you are right. i live in their stuff. my dr. gave me the brochure. i wear their biggest insane looking lampshade-like hat and two layers of their scarves sewn together underneath it along with these huge goggles and a mask. i look like darth vadar, but it works. i have to wear dark colored items because the more color saturated an item is the higher the protection it offers, so everything i have is dark blue or black lending an even more costume like look to the get up. but they actually have very nice things and people that are just looking for normal levels of protection can find stuff that looks perfectly sane and good looking and more importantly, it works. cenia Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Living in the Colorado Rockies requires you to wear a sunscreen at all times! I've also used Oil of Olay Sensitive Complete with good results. It is not cheap, but I bought one piece after having a melanoma scare about a year ago. Also, you have to reapply it every 1 to 2 hours or its' sunblocking ability fades. I also react to Octyl Methoxycinnamate. It makes my face very red.
