There are many contributing factors to

autoimmune disease.

My doctor has diagnosed me with Metabolic

Syndrome. Simply put, if I do not change my

diet and lifestyle SIGNIFICANTLY I am headed down the same

road as my mother. Diabetes, heart disease

and quite possible cancer.

I have a pattern of normal low HDL, normal high LDL and borderline high

triglycerides. I collect fat around my abdomen (apple) and I have hashsi. I have

a

difficult time losing weight.

Stress has been my middle name for many, many years as well as drug and

alcohol addiction. (I will be sober for 20 years this September.)

Everything I read tells me stress; physical or emotional, is a major trigger

for autoimmune diseases.

For stress, I listen to relaxation/guided mediation tapes, garden, deep

stretches, reflexology and ama massage when I can afford it, and walk every

morning. I think I may begin deep breathing exercises.

Stress kills, no doubt about it. How we handle it is what is important.

Everyone is an individual. You will find what works for you.

This is only what works for me.

Warmly,

i do not disagree with this at all. I am just extremely sensitive at the

implication that it is our fault for getting this disease because we ate the

wrong thing, thought the wrong thing, drank the wrong thing, breathed the wrong

thing...

My husband was dx'd with diabetes and high blood pressure and high

cholesterol, He has heart disease, and cancer in his family., so he was

getting an extensive work up.

He totally changed his diet and when he went back for a followup, there was

no evidence of the diabetes. The nurse couldn't believe it and thought she

had the wrong chart, because she said you can't get rid of diabetes once

you have it..my husband just smiled and said wanta bet?

Now if we just get him on armour, we will get that cholesterol down, and the

high blood pressure too.

stress relief

1) an adult type coloring book, and colored pencils.... i recommend crayola

brand, no i don't have any connection with crayola, jsut my personal

experience.

adult type coloring book

either geometric

or stained glass

or tropical fish,

or birds,

or an anatomy coloring book, if you are into the body muscles etc.

something like this is very mindless, kindof like stacking lettuce...

doing something like this will help a lot

If you have any suggestions for keeping bgs in control, while under a lot of

stress, please share them with me.

Sheila

Dear sweet Sheila,

I haven't been posting much since my old computer died and went to " computer

heaven " . :o(

I really can relate to your problems. One of my sons was " laid off " and was

drawing unemployment when he was " rear-ended " by an SUV. He was on his way

to a job interview when the accident happened. He got a whiplash and a back

injury. Now they have cut his unemployment out because he is not physically

able to take a job. Talk about the pits! This is it!

Oh dear, now I'm off on a tangent again. O.K., I am 70 years old and

certainly can't handle the stress anymore but what else can we do??? When

our children are in trouble we are in trouble too. Right? The only thing

that I can tell you is to do something with your hands. I need to clean

house but that doesn't relieve the stress so I went back to work on the king

size bedspread that I have been crocheting on for about 3 years (off and

on). I alternate between working on the bedspread and playing the piano. I

haven't felt up to painting lately though. I just have to keep my hands

busy.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Hugs,

Tootie
