Guest guest
I am currently using Cetaphil Bar soap but I would like to try Zia Fresh Cleansing Gel, since it is one of the cleansers recommended by Dr. Nase. A lot of people seem to really like it. I've checked a couple health food stores for it with no success. I know I can order off the Internet but I would really love to see the ingredients first. Would it be possible for someone who uses it to do a post listing them. I did do a search first to check it anyone already had. I would really, really appreciate it. (Warning end of relevant part of post and start of rambling.) I just checked a health food store for Zia and I bought a soap called " Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap - Baby-Supermild. " It only has two ingredients: Palm-Coconut-NaOH-Solution & Jojoba Oil. I always think the less ingredients the better - less chance of reacting to something in the product. It said it's pH is 8 and below pH of 8 soaps biodegrade, synthetics do not. (It also said a lot of loopy, goofy stuff on the packaging, but I won't get into that.) I know that the normal acidic pH of skin is 4 - 6.8, averaging 5.5 (Only because I just read it in a medical journal article.)It said as pH rises bacteria grow. I remember reading somewhere that a lot of soaps are alkaline, which would definitely be bad for skin. Anyway, I looked up NaOH to see what it was and the hit I found said it was caustic (which means capable of corroding, burning, or dissolving)soda solution. Then there was a material data safety sheet which said in case of contact with eyes or skin, flush with plenty of water. Then it said caustic soda is used in such things as glycerine, detergents, and soap. So, my thoughts are - have I been washing my face with alkaline soaps my whole life? I wonder what the pH is of Cetaphil, Zia etc. How can something so dangerous in liquid form be okay when put in soaps (or is it not okay?) Now I don't really feel like trying this new soap, even on my body. But it I looked up the ingredients in Cetaphil I'd probably feel the same way about it.
