Walking shoes

For normal day-to-day walking around, I recommend Ecco. You can buy

replacement inserts, and the uppers last forever.

The rolls royce of walking shoes, however, is Mephisto, which has a

lifetime guarantee. When the shoe wears out, you send it back to them,

and (for an additional fee of $85) they remake the shoe, using new soles

and insoles.

Dan,

I have a pair, and truth be told, I like my ECCOs better. I have narrow

feet, and the Mephisto slip a bit on my heels, and they're not as cushy as

the ECCO. On the other hand, my husband loves his, but he has wide feet.

We bought them when we were in Paris... at half the cost of buying them in

Chicago. Still expensive, though...
