Guest guest
Ang, Yes, my child is apraxic and has many other motor planning issues and I feel he is frustrated at times and he will grind his teeth in his sleep.
Guest guest
My son has the same problem. I have been making sure he has lots of opportunities through out the day for both chewy and crunchy foods. I also do a vigorous brushing on the fleshy part of his mouth (when I do his tooth brushing). We also bought a teething toy for him. (we tried to find the least baby-ish one.) Then as we read books before bed, I ask him if he needs his " chew toy " . He almost always says he wants it. He chews on it as we read and sometimes as he goes to bed. Some nights he doesn't use it, though. It is always on his bedside table in case he decides he needs it at any time. This is coming from a strictly sensory standpoint. I do however think a mouth guard from a dentist is a good idea. Tricia Morin North Carolina Has anyone had issues with grinding of the teeth? I don't know exactly what this means. Someone once told me that children grind their teeth when they are stressed/or are upset. My son seems to grind his teeth only when i turn out the lights and it's time for night night. I sit with him for a bit and he grinds his teeth, like 95% of the time. I'm not sure what to do...

Guest guest
My daughter used to grind her teeth all day when she was 2 and 1/2. She did this for about 6 mths. Then a complementary medicine doctor told me he thought she had a fatty acid deficiency. I didn't know about proefa at the time, but I picked up efelex at shoprite. Within 11 weeks, she stopped altogether. carolyn
Guest guest
I have been a grinding my teeth for the majority of my life, I am 34years old. I wear a mouth guard at night. It is always much worse when I am under stress. My oldest child, not the one with apraxia, also grinds his teeth but not all the time. As the person who grinds their teeth, I must tell you that if your child has a bad night and grinds them all night they probably have a tremendous headache and sore jaws the next day. I suggest that anyone experiencing this see a dentist and get mouth guards. In our families case it is related to stress. I am a " worrier " and so is my son. My child with apraxia doesn't grind his teeth and is pretty easy going. God bless Daphne

Guest guest
Angie I was thinking about you this morning.....how are YOU doing???? Apraxic children put a lot of things in their mouths (from what I'm seeing FIRST HAND.) Must be some kind of an oral thing. Jordan used to grind his teeth. That stopped.......for now..... ~Karyn [ ] Re: Grinding of the teeth Sydnie grinds!!!!!! Once I started saying stop grinding or squeezing her cheeks she didnt do it as much. Now she's started back. Guest guest
This often comes up on the autism boards and for some kids, additional magnesium or calcium seems to help. One mom found manganese to help. Manganese does have an upper limit on how much you can give though so if you try that you have to be aware of how much you are giving.
