Suzi, do you mind telling us what 's preschool class was like? (class

size; Traditional, montessori or other?;did the teachers make any

accommodations for her;structured or unstructured;any one on one or just

group activities;etc)

We are still debating over schools, but have definetly decided against the

sped preschool.

Thanks, Traci, Hawaii

It was a traditional preschool. It had 12 kids per teacher, plus

some other staff around to help where needed.

I liked it because they did lots of singing and finger plays plus

lots of art projects. really responded to the singing, and by

her second year was singing parts of the songs.

The main thing they did is that they did not expect her to talk.

They didn't pressure her. The only problem we had was that she

would run to the bathroom without telling her teacher. I then had

to get her to say pee to her teacher beforehand.

The nice thing was that her sister wasn't in the same class, but all

of the classes were open to a common area. During freetime, the

kids were free to play in the common area and the other classrooms.

and got to play together then and at recess.

The teachers were very comfortable with preschoolers not talking.

They said that there were lots of preschoolers that were just shy

and didn't talk at school.

I did talk to lots of different schools. One said they didn't like

kids with speech problems because they tend to have behavior

problems. We never went back there.

We had several other kids with speech problems go to 's

school. One of them loved it, and the other one didn't.

Thanks Suzi. How many total kids per class were there? Did she ever have

problems with being overwhelmed by all the kids? Is she shy by nature or

outgoing? Kennedy is shy and I'm afraid she will be overwhelmed by the

children and the freedom of choice. (not much structure)

It was just 12 kids in a class. That is what I liked. Some other

preschools had like 24 or 36 kids in a class and then had more

teachers. would have been way too overwhelmed. She could

handle the 12 kids in a class.

's preschool had lots of structure. She needed it. They had

free time for the first 15 or 20 minutes of class. Then they had a

set time for circle time, recess, snack, music, story time, art

time. She knew the routine, and the routine was good for her. I

don't think she could have handled a montisorri type program. She

needed/needs direction.
