Guest guest
I wonder if some of you could offer insight as to what's happened to my BG today. To begin, this packet of test strips establishes " normal " as 112-161 (it varies from packet to packet...I guess everyone's test systems do that..??) Anyway, I went to bed last night after a fairly high protein/fat dinner of chicken fajitas (without the tortillas) and a diced avocado. An hour after dinner, I tested at 117. At bedtime, it was 123. When I got up this morning, it was 101, fasting. So far, so good. OK...then I had a low-carb shake for breakfast. Actually, I had about 1 1/2 of a recipe. Probably 5-6 carbs total. That's it. Went to work, had one cup of coffee with half and half. Tested at 8:30 (2 hours after breakfast) and I got a reading of 174. Wow! Where did THAT come from??? I immediately figured I hadn't given my body ENOUGH carbs (I wasn't doing it deliberately...just the way things worked out). So, I ate a handful of nuts and tested an hour later. Up two more points to 176. OK...Hmmmm... So, a few minutes later, I had a half of a low-carb (yeah, right) energy bar for about 10 carbs or so. Waited a little while. I should NOT have gotten any exercise, just to keep things " pure " but I did, anyway. A LITTLE exercise...walked about 5 or 6 blocks at a fairly leisurely place. An hour after having the energy bar, I tested at 115. Back to well within the normal range for these strips. Any theories as to where that darn spike came from? Is it my liver reacting to not having hardly any carbs???? This is a total mystery to me. Any insight would be appreciated. Suzette
