Number #2....adjust your insulin and exercise routine concurrently...meaning if you increase your exercise lower your insulin Number #3 Adjust your insulin based on carbs...if you eat less of them take less insulin IMHO, NAVY, BRB, ROFLOL and any other thingy that may apply...<grin> Ressy

I read constantly and do experiments trying just about everything but I must not be the " norm " . When I exercise my numbers go UP about 50 points. But usually in a few hours when I get over the initial rise, my numbers will be better throughout the day. I don't have to worry about taking a glucose tab. I worry about my numbers going too high when exercising. I tried an experiment last week eating less carbs and my numbers went way UP. I cut back on insulin and then my numbers went even more way UP. I am getting very depressed about it all. My husband says that I try too hard <if that's possible>. I went back to eating a moderate amount of carbs. I have to also be careful to only do a moderate amount of exercise to keep my numbers from going too high...... Kat
Guest guest
Kat, Are you exercising in the morning, after breakfast? How long after eating a meal or a snack? How long do you work out? Have you stopped in the middle of exercising and checked your BS at some point, rather than just after exercising? It's going to sound odd, I know... but have you tried eating *MORE* carbs just before exercising? Without a clearer picture of when your exercising, and such, I can only make a guess at what is happening, based on what has happened to me. If I start out exercising too long after eating (with BS down in the 90s or so) rather than about 30 min to 1 hour after eating (when my BS is spiking) my numbers go UP. If I let my BS go up a little *BEFORE* I exercise, I wind up with LOWER numbers by the end. I think what is happening, based on basic physiology, is that as we exercise the muscles draw glucose from the blood to use as fuel (that being the food we've most recently eaten). Once that fuel is used up (after about 20-30 mins of exercise) the body then begins to burn fat. I'm guessing that this fat-burning mechanism is also tied in, somehow, to the liver-dump process that takes care of lowered blood sugars. I exercise immediately after eating breakfast and dinner. I usually exercise around 30 minutes in the morning <walking> and 15 minutes in the evening <stationary bike>. I agree with you about eating carbs before exercising because if I don't eat breakfast first the rise in BS will be a lot worse.
