Guest guest
HELLO CAROLE, I ALSO HAVE AN ABI AND LOVE IT JUST LIKE MARIE. I WOULDN'T THINK OF STARTING THE DAY WITH OUT MY ABI. IT GOES ON JUST LIKE MY CLOTHES DO. IN THE BEGINNING IT WASN'T LIKE THAT AS I DIDN'T THINK IT HELPED A LOT BUT ONCE I GOT USED TO IT AND GAVE IT A FAIR TRIAL IT IS WONDERFUL. I ALWAYS EXPLAIN IT AS LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE. IT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE WHAT WE HEAR WITH OR EARS GOD GAVE US BUT LIKE LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE IT TAKES TIME AND PATIENCE. I HEAR SPEECH AND IT AIDS IN LIP READING TREMENDOUSLY. AS MARIE SAID HOUSE PERFECTED IT AND HAS DONE MORE IMPLANTS THAN ANY OTHER DOCTOR . MANY DOCTORS GO THERE TO TRAIN HOW TO DO THE IMPLANT. BEING AS I WOULD WANT THE EXPERTS TO DO MY SURGERY I CHOSE HOUSE. ASK ANY QUESTIONS CAROLE AND I OR SOMEONE ON THE CREW WILL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER SINCERELY, CATHERINE ABI#22 > brain stem implant > > > The doctor has suggested that my daugter get an ABI. Guest guest
I was not gonna post on this because it feels like I do it all the time and you people are getting tired of my mouth BUT Joanie said ask me soooooooo I will tell you my bit. I got the ABI in June 1999 when I had my left acoustic neuroma removed. It was " turned on " in September of 99. At first I sort of hated it. I had been deaf for 6 years and didn't like hearing beep beep beep. Now I do NOT hear beeps and pings. I am sure that is what they are, but my brain has adjusted to it and now I hear SOUND according to my brain. For instance...I KNOW what my brother's voice and family's voice sound like. When they are talking I can HEAR them talking. You would not believe how much it helps with lip reading and following along in a one on one conversation. I have gotten lazy and for the last 2 weeks I just didn't put the ABI on. My grandmother is totally miffed now cause I don't wear it. She has to repeat like 500 times. Joanie says she would rather be deaf....well I guess there are some that feel that way...my fiancé included. I for one would do the surgery all over again. In my opinion it was WELL worth it! And yes I still listen to music. Music that I used to listen to I can hear it the way it sounded. The brain is a wonderful thing. ...ABI#84 (I THINK) shutting up now cause I am rambling
Guest guest
CLAUDIA, I DON'T THINK YOU ARE RAMBLING AT ALL. I THINK YOU EXPRESSED THE ABI VERY WELL. AS YOU ALL KNOW I AM ABI #22 ONE OF THE EARLY TRAIL PEOPLE AND I AGREE 100 % WITH EVERYTHING YOU SAID. NOW STOP GETTING YOUR GRANDMA MIFFED AND WEAR YOUR ABI. I FAMILY IS THE SAME WAY IF I DON'T HAVE IT ONE WHICH IS RARE.
