Guest guest
, Lamar here, No medical CMT related question is inappropriate. At 53 I have some urinary urgency, but still have control. BUT, both my mother, grandmother, and several other female relatives have eventually needed indwelling " Foley " catheters for a number of years. With all this started in their early 60's. Their symptoms started with loss of control and then led to the inability to " push " to void. They also had spasms and backwash reflux. The doctors said they THOUGHT it was CMT related, but I have found little literature on the subject. I would welcome any references you may be able to give. CMTI does have a good paper on sexual dysfunction with CMT that relates to the topic. ----- Original Message ----- From: leslie little Sent: Sunday, January 07, 2001 07:56 PM Subject: [] question regarding bladder and kidney function I apologize if this is inappropriate to ask in advance - my bladder stopped functioning almost 4 years ago, no ability to control muscle spasms for urethra control or backwash reflux and I began self cathing 3 X day. I am now up to 5 X day and taking a bladder paralyzing drug, ditropan 20 mg daily. Detrol did not work for me. I also have a blockage growth or mass in the right kidney and after doing extensive searching found that in males with CMT it is fairly common for one or the other kidney to dysfunction and have reflux and blockages, not cysts or calcium buildup. It is very rare for females to have this added condition with their CMT. Does anyone else have this little additive with their CMT? Thanks and again I apologize if the question is inappropriate. leslie eGroups Sponsor

Guest guest
, My sister (CMT) had kidney problems in her last years, leading to kidney failure. My father (CMT) had problems with bowel control. Started losing control in his fifties. I think this was his biggest issue with the disease, and the one no one wanted to talk about, himself most of all. Eventually became somewhat of a recluse because of it (albeit a busy recluse building the house and farming the land...) He increasingly did not like to go out in public in case he could not reach a bathroom in time and had an accident. He also was quite deaf and was told his hearing problems were nerve-related and would not respond well to hearing aid technology at that time. Guest guest
Hi I also live with what you are saying. I am a 43yr.old female, and have been having bowel problems for about 4 years, now. My neurologist said he does not believe bowel problems are related to CMT. But as I keep in touch with you all, sure helps me; deal with this disorder. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
