Hello everyone

I am suppossed to keep a good record of my food intake and my meter readings.

Does anyone use a form or know of one that is good that I should use? They want

me to keep track of everything I eat and drink, the times, the meter readings,

my moods and any stress I may be under.

Thanks in advance!

Alison

Alison, if you want to keep your records on your computer I can recommend

One Touch Software which you can download from the Life Scan site. It's

designed to work with the Life Scan monitors. I purchased a USB cable so I

can download my meter readings automatically. But you can also input data

manually. You can track meds, readings, food, exercise, weight, test

results -- all sorts of stuff -- and then print out handy logs, charts and

graphs. I can tell you, seeing my BGs drop from the mid-200s to the normal

range displayed on a graph is very reinforcing to me, if you see what I

mean. It's like a picture of the progress I'm making!

You can check it out at http://www.lifescan.com/products/otdms/

I'm sorta nerdy so I like the software. OTOH, you can get a little spiral

notebook, devote one page to each day, and keep your records on paper. 8-)

Good luck from a fellow newbie!

Hi Alison.

The easiest/cheapest thing really would be just a steno pad.

Lots of room instead of being crammed into a small space. Just

start each page with the date, then list your meals/snacks

beneath it with what time, and leave a second column off to the

right side for your BS levels 1 and 2 hours after (or whenever you

check.)

If you like programs/websites, you could try Fitday.Com. It's

basically a food journal, and I found it helpful in that it counted all

the calories up for me, etc. It also has exercise logs and a space

for journaling where you could keep track of your BS. It can be a

bit slow and clunky, tho.

Hi, ...I use paper and pencil (I'm just an old fashioned gal)...a

small spiral pad where I write down every time I check my BG (usually

about 10x a day), what it was, my activity (before walk/after walk,

etc.) and how much insulin I take and when. On a bigger spiral pad I

write down everything I eat and the amount (using a gram scale). I've

been doing this for more than 7 years now and it really is easy once you

get into the habit. Each night I transfer the data onto my Palm pilot,

and keep that info for 2 months, so I can use it to track trends. I

use the information to decide on insulin doses for each meal.

This is a LOT more accurate than " standard dosing " and this method is

responsible for my A1Cs consistently under 6 for at least 6 years.

Vicki, LADA type 1 diagnosed 1997, UL and Humalog insulin and lotsa

testing, no complications.

Dorothy -- that's exactly the way I do it.

One spiral page for each day.
