Guest guest
, As far as cabinet locks, the only ones I can use that work are the ones that look like safety pins, and they don't work on all cabinets, drawers, etc. The other locks, the ones you attach to the insides of drawers and cabinets may work for a little while, but by child 3 or so, they learn how to work them. Now if there was just a good refrigerator lock and toilet lid lock........even a garbage can lock!!! Joan
Guest guest
, The best thing we have are pads going around our fire place bricks. I highly recommend those if you have a fireplace. There are these great cabinet locks that my friend had (I think from Right Start?) that are unlike the one's you can buy at WalMart, etc. They work well until the child is about 3 and can then figure them out. If you get light plug covers, get the kind that are the plate and you have to use the prongs to slide the cover over. Don't even bother with the ones you stick in...they can actually be a choking hazard! I also used those knob covers for the doors that I didn't want my kids to get into at all (bathroom, etc.)
Guest guest
, Get the plug covers that are a whole face plate. It snaps over the outlet when the plug is removed stopping any accidents. The plug covers that pop right in each outlet also pop right out by Zaid. The main thing to baby proofing is depoisoning your home. If you can gather up all the poison in the house and have it in one locked area. The knives are also important to lock up. Any top heavy items: coat racks, lamps that are very tall, dressers and such need to be secured especially if you have a climber. Hiring a professional baby proofing company can be expensive but they do a great job. Wendi Babyproofing ??? Hi! I am hoping for some feedback from those of you with toddlers or older regarding what babyproofing products you found useful and effective, and which I shouldn't bother wasting money/time on. Garrick isn't crawling yet, but I like to be as prepared as possible...Any tips you have will be most appreciated Thanks in advance, ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ONElist: where real people with real interests get connected. http://www.onelist.com Join a new list today! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Breastfeeding is Best!! http://www.maclee.com/breastfeeding If you like this list also check out http://www.onelist.com/subscribe.cgi/weanedbuddies
Guest guest
Wendi, So glad you mentioned the top-heavy objects!!! That is something that you don't realize until something happens. We had problems with tall-boy dressers, kids wanting to pull out the drawers to climb up.... aaaaaagh. Luckily no one here was ever really injured, but it was something where I had to see something " almost " happen before realizing the hazard. Poisons are also very important to keep locked up - I think I personally have phoned poison control 4 times (once was for me - I gargled with green windex thinking it was mouthwash by accident - yuck!). Actually, I just called 2 weeks ago for my 4-year-old - he got hold of my 13-year-old's spray cologne and sprayed it in his mouth. You just never know.... Guest guest
The 2 best babyproofing investments I made were the power strip cover for the computer and the coffee table bumper. The bumper was expensive but worth it. I found it a lot cheaper at a local baby store than it sells for in the right start catalog. (I can't remember who mentioned it, but both fridge and toilet locks are available. I think Safety 1st makes them) Tammy mom of 13 , 10 Maddie, 15 months > Re: Babyproofing ??? > > > From: MJplus5@... > > Also, the socket covers that just plug in like a regular plug, > they stink. > Joan > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > What do lizards and rock music have in common? > http://www.onelist.com > They both have communities at ONElist. Guest guest
Joan, I love poison control. My house is virtually poison free but Zaid got ahold of Jenabe's martini and drank about half. Man was he drunk. LOL They were so nice to me when I called in a panic. They said he would be fine and he was. Wendi Re: Babyproofing ??? From: MJplus5@...
