Guest guest
In 1971 I had a yeast infection and used a prescription cream (it was not OTC in those days). The infection went away but I was always rather sensitive down there ever since. I used various soaps for bathing and finally found one that prevented the irritation. It was called Ting. The active ingredient was Tolnaftate, an antifungal. I used it for about 20 years and they finally quit making it so I switched to Ivory which worked almost as well if I rinsed it off thoroughly. Then in 1996 I started itching and burning down there and bought an OTC anti-fungal cream which caused me to have a terrible reaction. I don't recall whether it was monistat but it was one the OTC's. But I was itching and burning before I used it and think I had an allergic reaction to it. I had been using the soap for years and it probably kept me free of yeast as long as I was using it then when I stopped, perhaps I regained my sensitivity to yeast and the vulvodynia started. So maybe I had vulvodynia since 1971 only it was so mild that I didn't think much about it. The Ting soap completely stopped the pain. Something I wonder about - Did the anti-fungal soap prevent me from developing a yeast infection until I stopped using it. Using an antifungal for six months or so might make the situation worse later on if a person developed another yeast infection and used a different product to treat it. Just my two cents. Guest guest
HI Ora Gosh now there's a name I haven't heard of in Years!!! TING... LOL thanks for the memories. As a teenager lots of us used it on our faces, (it wasn't a bar of soap but in a tube) and we thought it was an acne medication, (OTC) and it sure burned but left us with gorgeous complexions, (probably a face peel) *grin*.. Little did we know back then what it really was and I had no Idea it was an antifungal. Interesting. Today they do have the ZNP soap which is an antifungal soap. http://www.aaaskindoctor.com/skindoctor/znp.html Not too bad a soap, doesn't lather up a lot but seems ok if a bit expensive. I've used it off and on if I'm getting that Tineaversicolor (a skin fungus with patches on the chest and trunk that looks like a peeled sunburn and leaves white spots) and it helps with that, but can't say if it works or not in the genital area, but I haven't had a yeast infection 'down there' in a long time, Generally tho I use Dove. I like the scent and feel and see that brand is often recommended in some general articles about soaps to use down south. Dee
Guest guest
I tried the ZNP bar but didn't really care for it. I got turned off right away when I opened that big box and found a little bar of soap in it inside a " throw-away " soap dish which wouldn't fit in my soap dish. Then I read the label and it is for dandruff so it didn't fit my needs. I tried it but didn't keep using it. It is still in the box. Guest guest
Sorry that ZNP soap didn't work for you Ora, I thought the soap 'dish' part of it was a bit corney, and the bars are small but they must be a hardmilled soap, they seemed to last forever. For dandruff an antifiungal is often used but that means it would help for bodily fungal infections as well probably or even for something like Jock itch which we women can get as well in the pubic hair area.. I used to use Selsun 'gold' dandruff shampoo on my body with the Tineaversicolor and it's a prescription by the doctor, so even tho it was for dandruff it works for other places too. Today they have Selsun 'blue' OTC... but it's much weaker. Dee
Guest guest
Maybe I will start using it again. I didn't use it for very long because it didn't seem to work as well as my Basis Soap which I use regularly.
