Guest guest Posted March 29, 2006 Report Share Posted March 29, 2006 HI , WOW I was so sorry to hear about that student you had that had that reaction to the Bactrim. *sigh* What a sad thing. I've done some pretty indepth research into the sulfa drugs and if one isn't aware of an allergy to them, I was in shock with the devastation that can happen, even death and that's with a one time usage. By the way hon I've seen far more than 9 reported that you mentioned, at least with 'on line' reports maybe not to the FDA though. Same with the Ultram and me, I was in one little office and there were 3 people who had a severe reaction with anaphalaxis yet it's rarely in legitimate reports either. PLUS they make it so doggone hard to report a reaction from a private citizen and most doctors don't have the time for all the technical red tape and proof etc., (I tried) I wish there was a simple legal place where patients can write and I know they say there is one, but believe me I tried it and it's not that easy at all. Anyway it really is something to be aware of with drugs with sulfa (sulpha) in them (as in the Bactrim) and note that's totally different than Sulphur which we need and is good, but thank goodness most aren't sensitive to it and it can help, but if one takes any drug with that in it, I'd be aware to notice any side effects and immediately call my doctor if I did have some.
