Guest guest
From Dee: But to 'me' it seems all of them have to do with actual physical reactions of either the body's lower esophageal sphincter muscle being weak or if it's a hernia the stomach protruding into the esophagus past that muscle and why a weight problem (pregnancy) or bending over can trigger that. Even in your case it was a physical thing with those gallstones, (I think that's what you said) and I can see how food can aggitate or irritate it but 'I' don't think its a cause of the disease but a reaction to it possibly. Hi Dee, I am just getting back to this. Thanks for the email and the thoughts. Actually even with gallstones in the tubes I didn't have it all the time. Eating fat would trigger it. Gallstones are formed because the body cannot properly digest fat (fat malabsorption again)(Some say that if you have gallstones, you have celiac). Some say atresia is the problem where the valves for excreting bile which helps to digest fat doesn't open or something like that. (I tell my sons that I have forgotten more than they will every know). (Maybe like the valve for opening the stomach doesn't open properly in GERD??) (Ha!) A pat of butter would send me off. Not only is that fat but I am also reactive to dairy. (such complicated stuff). I think the question is usually what causes the malfunction and I tend to think that even with acid reflux and GERD, we are back to the old enemy called inflammation which indeed might cause malfunction of the valves if they are swollen, etc. And food is the obvious thing that we ingest into our bodies that can cause antibodies and the ensuing inflammation. Of course there are other things we take into out bodies through breathing and absorbing through the skin. But I think food is the big thing. Anyway if I can't find the answers it is a lot of fun to make it up or at least imagine. But I do think inflammation is the big and constant culprit in most diseases. Even if one is getting old and valves are wearing out my question is why--perhaps because they have been bombarded with antibodies which results in constant inflammation which renders them weak and ineffectual. Sounds like a never ending circle. Mine happened when I bent over and I was swallowing at the same time and likely has something to do with gravity along with the malfunctioning stomach valve. When it happens I am positive that I am not long for this world because it is so very painful. Now that I know what it is, I am not alarmed anymore. Arline __________________________________ Yahoo! Guest guest
Hillary, I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well and hope you feel better. My aunt had Sjorgen's, but then she went strictly GF and is asympotmatic. If you are extremely careful with your diet, you may have the same good fortune. I sure hope so. Feel better, Ciara ________________________________________________________ Dear Dee, Arline, and All, I think it is a general mucus problem and I've asked Dr. Metzger to test me for sjorgen's syndrome. I also have this dry eye(pupil sticks to the eyelid, severe pressure in the eye initially when I don't get a good night sleep, now half the time)a constant sore throat, dry nasal passages, etc. I know my white blood cell count is low. Sjorgen's syndrome strikes mostly females, but is genetic. Maybe I'm reading into things, but my father had this dry eye problem for years. Then incessant tearing. Finally the bone marrow under the tear duct was bioposed and they discovered he had mantle cell lymphoma. It's 2:30 and I'm up with this sore throat. For the last two weeks I would find when the reflux became bad, the sore throat and eye problem became worse. I also started having this problem in 1990(much less severe) but first the reflux was diagnosed, then I had this running eye, then I developed alopecea, and then I developed sciatica and had to have back surgery. I believe now that my immune system has been faltering for sometime, but I've been working past the pain. I'm going to spray my throat again and lie down. Maybe I'll sleep. These days it's hard to tell. Sorry about the uncontrollable blubbering and blabbing. Hillary __________________________________ Yahoo!
