Guest guest
now I know why I couldn't get any mail last night, and why most of my emails are coming back as permenate errors and all of that! Howdy Doodie All, I haven't noticed any real problems with my Outlook, other than it has been a little slower at receiving the last few days. I do know that there is a new variant of the Netsky virus that is slapping around the Net this week. The way people are writing viruses lately it is imperative to make sure that you have your anti-virus software updated all the time. I have mine on auto-update and I don't have to worry at all. It is also important to remember to update whatever version of Windows you are using. Microsoft has switched recently to only releasing one security update per month so it is easier to keep that up to speed. In Windows XP you can have the software perform the updates automatically, but I prefer to go to Windows Update or Microsoft's downloads to make sure I am on top of the security issues. That way the only effect that I see when security or virus outbreaks hit is the natural slowdown in the Internet traffic. If you are getting some specific error messages with the Outlook problems you could copy the error message in an e-mail to me. Since I work as a techie geek I have access to areas of support that aren't available to everyone. If I have specific error messages I can usually locate the problems and provide you with the solution to correct it. For those of you that use the Instant Messengers there are firewalls that can encrypt the messages, and prevent others from accessing your computers through that means. Let me know if I can be of any assistance to any of you. Thanks and I hope everyone is having a pleasant evening. I am hoping mr. arm will not it off and start behaving. Take care all..... I know you do but dont know if you have it set up to show how many emails you are receiving. If not set to have that box open when you hit the SEND/RECEIVE button, please make it pop up. It will give you Error messages if it is unable to do one or the other, or both. My friend who works for a company where he keeps all the computer networks going for the major Fortune 500 companies told me that one thing he has noticed is that in Windows Security Updates, there is a patch that was made for Windows Media. You would have installed it through Security Updates. Because I had already installed that only days before my problems started, you can not uninstall it unless you really know what you are doing, which of course I dont. I have explained it to Mark and as he has posted, he is trying to figure this out. Dont feel alone because all of us are having the same problem everywhere in the US. Hopefully, Greybeard the Wonder Dog can show us his stuff.LOL I hope this helps so that all can understand what we can not fix. Wishing you all a pain free day, Rhonda
