I imagine this is another one of those YMMV thingies. I've never tried

amitriptyline but the sleep I get with Benadryl is just fine.

Vicki, LADA type 1 diagnosed 1997, UL and Humalog insulin and lotsa

testing, no complications.

I have taken several kinds of allergy medications, and

Allegra 180 is the first I've taken that doesn't cause me

significant side effects.

Sandy

I was taking Benedryl for allergies and the doctor said it

could make my bp

go up. Sure enough when I stopped taking it, my bp went

down. I take Allegra

now, much more expensive though!

Vicki,

I recently read in the AARP Bulletin that, though " untold

millions use it [benadryl] as a sleep aid " , the practice is

not a good choice for those over 60. It said that " in the

worse cases, diphenhydramine can cause delirium and even

hallucinations. " The person behind these comments is ph

V. Agostini, a professor at the Yale University school of

Medicine. Of course, his comments were based on his own

study, and it was a rather small sample -- 70 people. Also,

since it was done with hospitalized patients, the results

could have been skewed, but good to have all the

information.

the eye weeping with the slightest breeeze.

Vicki,

So do I... a bunch of them :-)

Sandy

I only take 4 prescriptions -- lisinopril, Lipitor, thyroid

and Zetia --

but I do take a slew of supplements.

(This is the person who, in her 20s, vowed never to be one

of those old

ladies who took a slew of medicines, smile)>
