I would say don't worry about it. I think it said if normal risk is 1.0, your risk would be 1.25. Big deal. Let's say out of 1000 people, 10 of those with normal BGs would have a heart attack and 12.5 with a higher A1c would have a heart attack. That means an extra 2.5 people in 1000. I don't know what the actual risks of heart attacks in people with normal BG are; it obviously depends on your age and other risk factors. But even if the increased risk is significant and is enough to urge people to keep their BG down, it's not enough to lose sleep over. One has to remember that risk factors are risk factors. You might be at very low risk and still drop dead of a heart attack. Or you might be at high risk and live to be 100. Nothing is certain. Guest guest
Gretchen, CVD runs in my family; however only in the previous generation so far. My coronary arteries are as clear as I could wish them, even before lipitor when my cholesterol was running in the high 300s. The tech said he had never seen carotid arteries as open and clean as mine. It was more the other complications I was concerned about - eyes and kidneys. However, I am doing the best I can and will not lose sleep over the rest. Thanks for your reply. Helen
