Guest guest
Hi Lin, I wear jeans in the winter time, shorts all summer, so when the cold weather hits it does bother me to wear them but....... not going to wear shorts all winter! LOL I would freeze!! I have the type of RSD/CRPS where my bones freeze as opposed to burning. Keeping my leg warm is a constant battle and many times I end up bundled up in my warm (some think hot) waterbed to ease the pain. I couldn't make it through the day without my pain pills though the side effects are getting more difficult to deal with. I ended up in the ER being admitted once overnight, almost twice. The surgeons recommended surgery but the one I saw said no surgery so, I'm healing the long way from these thrombosed roids. They do hurt!! The 2 they did lance have finally started sealing, 3 weeks later now, and I am feeling well enough that I started bike riding again to get the swelling in my leg down hopefully. That has become a problem again as well as the neuroma in my 'good' foot where RSD is now starting. Anyway, I think of wearing jeans, shaving, etc. to be part of my desensitization routine. It all hurts but it's necessary to keep things from getting worse. The longer I put it off, the more it hurts, that's why I shave twice a week at least in the winter months. Feels like I'm skinning myself alive but, what can you do? Hang in there if you work on it, you'll get those jeans on again! Guest guest
Hi Lin, Glad to hear you found some pants you can wear, I like the really soft plush ones that came out a few years ago, can't remember what the material is called though. I wear jeans every day as I get out most every day and still try to keep things as normal as possible. I do have days though that I dont' get dressed or even leave the house, especially when it's cold and raining/snowing out. When I first started in physical therapy after my first surgery, they used a cotton ball to rub across the area and it felt like someone was driving nails in! Yeow! Eventually though I got used to it and then progressed to rought materials until it just feels like it is asleep. It takes a long time, about 9 months, but is well worth the trouble. I don't worry about what people think any more about my leg, it is atrophied and scarred terribly but this is a beach town so, everyone bares all! LOL With a little bit of a tan, it doesn't look so bad scar wise, it is the atrophy that is most noticeable along with the ankle brace. Most people think it is a weight of some sort. Bike riding helps with the atrophy in the summer but winter months is when it gets really bad. I'm just starting to work on bike riding this year and hope to build back up to my 6 mile ride to the oceanfront, then a rest and ride bike. I absolutely love the beach and nothing would keep me from being out in the sun with shorts or a bathing suit on. Hang in there, you'll find your answers and ways to cope. Guest guest
I completely understand about the sensitivity to clothing. I have recently had to buy lounge pants. These are men's pants that are kind of like flannel material. They are about all I can wear these days. My jeans started hurting me several weeks ago. My daughter suggested the "pajama" pants. Those are her words not mine. Does it really matter what people think, as long as we are comfy? I go out in public in them. Most of the comments are friendly. As far as shorts go, I am always cold. It has been about 60-65 the last few days, and I am in a sweatshirt and pants. Strange, huh? Thanks for listening.
