Guest guest Posted June 29, 2004 Report Share Posted June 29, 2004 Carol, I had one too and started overdosing on vitamin C and took Echinacea for a week or so. It has cleared up. I had to go back to just one multi vitamin. Vitamin C in large doses will aggravate arthritis. Don't stay on the Echinacea either. It works for me when taken as directed when I rarely have a cold or sinus flare up. When I get that sinus thing once or twice a year, it seems to go the full cycle. It goes head to chest and then both etc., and then gradually goes away. Suggestion: Echinacea 2-3/day for a couple weeks and Vitamin C. I don't take the chewable rose hips that I like so well. Bgs are up about 15-20 points across the board, and this sinus thing just keeps going on and getting worse. So, doctor time - this time I just have to insist that they do a culture and x-ray because I've been struggling with it since January. The only thing offered so far is a steriod nasal spray and that's not an option. OTC works somewhat on symptoms, but I need it over. I have had one antibiotic that raised bgs, but it was a very old-style med. Pinch of sea salt in 16 oz warmed purified water, and the pulsing action of the Waterpik does an excellent number on getting the gunk out. http://www.ent-consult.com/index.html A friend of mind who was subject to fierce sinus infections nearly all the time had surgery, which didn't help that much. What did help was that as part of the post-surgical regime, he was given antibiotics in liquid form to put in the Waterpik with nasal irrigator tip, which he used at least twice a day. Part of the problem with curing sinusitis by taking oral meds is that so little of the med actually gets secreted into the sinus cavity; putting it there directly makes a whole lot of sense to me. I read somewhere that chronic sinusitis may be a fungal infection problem; I bet you can get liquid antifungals to put in your nose as well. Ask your doctor, if s/he is open-minded ;@) And yes, allergies have been fierce this year! I find a pre-emptive strike works best for me: I take my Allegra 180 every morning, and Singulair and half a dose of Nasonex in the evening (I use a CPAP machine, so it's vital I be able to breathe through my nose at night). I also remember he gave me antibiotic ointment to snuff up the nose for them too. Now that is over counter. That helped. He said I had sticky sinus and when they close they close. I take Zyrtec.
