Guest guest
, SSRI stands for Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor. Here is a good website that will give you more information. http://www.anxiety-and-depression-solutions.com/ssri.htm Good Luck. I know we are talking about prescription medications but don't know what the initials SSRI stand for. So am sticking my neck out there at the expense of sounding stupid! Thanks Re: medication : Our problems started long before we started SSRI's w/ Lydia. She was doing very bizarre stuff which we attributed to ADHD and teenage behavior, but it was all very exteme. We've seen improvement in her mood on prozac but only saw a very tired child when she was on zoloft. She's also on seroquel which helps a lot w/ her distorted thinking. My daughter was diagnosed with depression/suicidal ideations last January. Because we have a family history of people with depression and panic/anxiety that responded well to SSRI's (prozac, zoloft) she was started on lexapro and after her second suicide attempt switched to prozac. I do believe that my daughter was depressed and the prozac did seem to help but it helped at a very high cost. Prior to starting SSRI's my daughter was an A/B student and functioned well in our family and at school. It has been down hill every since last January. The cutting and suicidal thoughts are such an issue. Her arms are covered with self inflicted cuts. She is unable to go to mainstream school but the group therapy at the alternative school causes great anxiety. She was hospitalized for 12 days in Oct, stabilized on Abilify and sent home and after a week destabilized again and is now on day 24 of a 36 day residential treatment program. After her third day at the RTC they discontinued the prozac and abilify and started her on resperidol 3 mg every day. She also takes buspar 30 mg twice a day. My question is, did the prozac cause a lot of this dysfunction? It feels like I started with a depressed child (she is now 14) and ended up with a borderline child. This is driving me nuts because up until last January we had no inkling that there was anything this seriously wrong. We are not novices at parenting. She is 4th out of five children and they are all teenagers right now. Has andone else had bad experiences with SSRI's. Send questions & concerns to WTOParentsOfBPs-owner .
